Title: Brain dead on opening day.
Post by: Atroxus on October 13, 2012, 04:45:30 PM
I never thought I would be happy about NOT seeing any animals while hunting. Today I went out to one of the areas I had scouted. Hiked in past the gate. Got all setup, then realized that my license and tags were sitting on my desk at home. :(

Bleh.  Hate that.  Done it more than once.  I only hunt about 5 minutes from home though

I got about 1/4 mile in when I realized I forgot to throw on the orange vest. Had to head back to the truck and get it, got used to not wearing hunting bear.

lol That all happened to us today.

Well we got to the mountain an hour early and my son forgot his backpack with his license in it. Called my brother and luckily he hadn't left yet so he brought it up. Then he checked the pack and no license? He left it in his duck bag from the youth season. I hunted the morning for a few hours then we drove back to the house and found his license, switched trucks and went out for the evening hunt. Not again, we got 4 miles up the road and he forgot his orange, so drove back got the orange and drove to the mountain. Got out of the truck to get ready for the hike in and sure enough he says "dad I left my binos in the other truck".

Doh! At least you were able to get back out. Unfortunately that wasn't an option for me. I came home to the honey-do list. So I am done until next weekend.

We call those senior moments around here.

I can remember hiking in a couple of miles in the dark, getting all set up on a coulee, the sun comes up and a string of mulies are climbing up from the apple orchard and alfalfa fields. I grab my .30-30, reach in my pocket and pull out a box of .32 Special ammo. Bleahhh!!!  :bash:

Thought I had everything in hand for this morning. Everytime I go to get a license, I forget my sons Hunter Safety cert to get his license.

Was planning on being in the bushes RIGHT NOW!

We get the rifle sighted in, head home and put everything away. Grab the rifle yesterday to put a sling on it and the paralax had fallen loose inside the scope. CRAP. Goto Cabelas for some stuff and get a new scope. Haul butt to the rang and ask the range master to install the scope for me to sight in. Scope is half an inch to short to fit my rings. Back to Cabelas for a resolution and to the range again. Hopefully was can still get out in the field before noon.
