Title: Blue Mountains East Late Tag
Post by: Rifleman77 on October 14, 2012, 11:39:07 PM
Hey everyone,
First off I hope everyone's season is off to a good start or went well. Nothing like getting out there and chasing a few deer around after 10 months off. Good luck to you if you are still out there putting in the hours to get one down.
Second, and I hate to do this, but I'm needing some help. My dad and I drew for the late tags in Blue Mountains East. While we've hunted the area before and know it pretty well, we've also noticed how private the area is. I had every intention of making some scouting trips this summer not only to get a beat on some deer but also meet a few people and hopefully get some more access to the land. However, my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the summer, so with that battle we were never able to squeeze a trip in. Now the hunt is fast approaching and I would hate to go into it blind and not do that tag its justice. So all in all, I guess what I'm asking for is any general tips for getting into the area better and giving us a decent chance. Friendly farmers, feel free to hunt land, pretty much anything is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any guidance! Happy hunting!

There is a big chunk of wildlife area land between Peola and Clarkston south of the Peola Rd.....think it's the Peola Rd....been a few years.  Take the Fitzgerald Way Rd south off the Peola Rd for a couple miles.  Walk in...lots of area.

If I had that tag I would go up in the mountains. Seems to be the best time to find those big mountain mulies when they are chasing does around.  The private land down lower is your best opportunity, but getting one in the mountains would be sweet!

If memory serves, it is a whitetail permit.

Or is that the whitetail only tag?  If so I got a few spots on public land I have run into nice whitetail bucks on if your interested.  They aren't tied up for ya, but they are there ; )

Thanks X-force, I appreciate it anyways.
And thanks Wacenturion and jackelope. I'll be sure to check into it!

elkinrutdrivemenuts- it is a whitetail only tag. 3pt or better of course.
But the mulies would sure be fun too. I'm just excited to get down there in the rut and hopefully the fog stays away. PM me!
