I got my first deer this year after three unsuccessful seasons. I couldn't be happier. Got him on Sunday morning about 9:15. I sat glassing in a spot for a while, then got antsy and decided to move. Took ten steps down wind to peak around a tree before heading up wind. There were two bucks bedded down 50 yards out, just casually looking at me without a care in the world. Didn't spook, didn't stand up, didn't even look concerned. Both looked like 2 points until one turned is head slightly to show a 3rd point. One shot to the head and he dropped without a step.
When I decided to start hunting 5 years ago I mentioned it to my grandpa. He didn't say anything, but a short time later he shipped all his hunting gear to me including a Ruger in .243. Each of the past few years I've gone out with the hope of getting my first deer while my grandpa is still around to hear about it. Given his condition, this was going to be my last chance to do that. I'm sure I'll get more deer in future years with his rifle, but this first one will always be special.

Way to go man. Sounds like your grandpa is a real nice guy.
It might sound kind of silly but it's cool to write down the whole story like a journal entry.
I thought it was dumb when I shot my first deer and my parents made me do it but ten years later, it's very cool to look back and remember it perfectly with.
Congratulations again, nothing like the first.

Congrats! Great buck
Having a weapon like that makes the hunt that much more special.
