Last year my house was broken into and along with some other things, my rifles were stolen. So, sadly I had start working on replacing them. I picked up a new Remington 700 in .300 Win mag a few months ago and added a new Leupold.
I also "retired" an old Buck knife I have carried for 30 years, and replaced it with a new Cutco fixed blade. I am new to Thurston Co, so had to start breaking in a new area to hunt, been a season of many firsts.
Went out this morning, first day out hunting my new digs, Thought I would share a couple pics from this mornings laundry list of firsts.
Found a nice sized doe in some reprod about 9:00 this morning, but even at 25 feet from her, it was so thick that when she took one step she was gone!
Since I have an antlerless permit for the area, I was pretty excited, and hunted about another hour when I found a little smaller one, but at 50 yards, she wasn't as spooked as the other one. One shot with the new rifle and tag punched!
Break-in new rifle: CHECK
Dressing her out with the new Cutco knife was amazing, those things are unbelievably sharp!
Break-in knife: IN PROCESS :IBCOOL:
Stab finger while dressing deer with very sharp knife: CHECK :bash:
Break-in of knife complete: CHECK!!
So, now its time to get back on some more home projects till November 3rd when my antlerless elk permit starts, another first...drawn for 2 special permits in the same season!
Hope everyone enjoys the sunrise picture and the "As she lays" picture. Sorry, no pictures of stabbed finger... :chuckle:

If you didn't/don't get a deer at least you got to be out in the wild with some beautiful scenery! Best of luck!

Yes, that is always one of the best parts of being out there. But I had to resize my pictures before I could finish the story, so all in all it was a very good day!

Where was the entrance/exit wound? I was just wondering since I also hunt with a 300 but have not taken and deer with it yet

She was moving so the 180gr took her through the shoulders, completely shattering one, but, surprisingly, didn't loose that much meat. I would say a little over a pound was too bad to save.
That is one reason why I use 180 gr bullets, 150's would have really torn both her shoulders up, especially at that range.
