Ok...so this year i picked up a game that said it was able to cover a large MD. Yet again in order to keep flies off my deer I had to duct tape two bags together. I hang hind legs up for skinning on a gambrel and just bag it like that when I'm done. I had to laugh because the bag this year said for "Large Mule deer" and still only got 70% coverage. :bash:
Does anyone have a single bag solution that works for them? Or does everyone do what I do and tape multiple bags together???

Alaskan Deer Sock, best I've used however I used one the other day and it was much better and bigger and thicker. I'll post a pic and the name of it when I get home, I was able to cover the whole deer and gambrel and no it wasn't a tiny fawn either lol !!

If you know anyone who can sew a little bit, go down and buy some good flow thru fabric and make your own. We started that several years ago ( good seamstress can make one for you in about half an hour with good drawstrings at the top) , we made ours way oversize to accomodate wide horns etc. At the end of the hunt just run them thru the washer and youre good to go for the next year (obviously you wont get out all the blood stains but that's no biggie).

I have Cabelas and Sportsman warehouse deer and elk bags that will do an entire animal. Also have elk quarter bags. They are some thin cotton canvas type material. With a deer hanging in the round I cinch the bag up around the back ankles of the deer.
These things, just branded differently.......

Old bed sheets (washed)
:yeah: One twin bed sized sheet fits an entire buck or doe mule deer no problem.

You really can't go too big, flies can lay eggs though pretty tight fabrics so loose is good.
Bed sheets sewn up are great, then spray Pam on the areas that are touching the meat as well as the nostrils so they don't crawl inside.

We had our own made too. But what we do it hang the deer from their neck...because when you hang them hind legs up in the gamble its really hard to get your bag around that because the hind legs are spread out really far and makes is hard to secure the bag up there. But with hanging from the neck (leave the head on) you only have to close the top of the bag up around the neck and we just wrap it around a couple times and there are draw strings in our bags and the ones that broke we just use some twine and tie it off.....works great to get everything in the bag.

I rarely carry anything but Alaska game bags. If you watch sharp bones that are cut they will last decades. Most of the time we just carry elk/caribou quarter bags. Moose quarter bags will fit most whole deer if the head is taken off. I've heard they have a "Whole Caribou" bag, but have never seen them. I'd like to see a deer to large for the whole deer bag :yike: I'm 6'01" 230 pounds and there is lots of room for me and some gear in that bag.
Not sure if they do it anymore, but Alaska Game Bag would sell the bag material in a roll. Cut it to whatever length you wanted and just tie a knot on both ends. Worked great!

If you buy on the cheap, expect a chitty product. Alaska game bags and others are a little more spendy, but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. :twocents:

That's why I carry four deer bags for deer quarters and a elk bag for a whole mule deer.
