Title: Any help North East Corner?
Post by: gottatree on October 19, 2012, 06:20:50 PM
Well we headed over with two boys to harvest there first dear. The promise of plenty of private ground lots of deer. We got over here and it is a joke. Nothing but alcohol and drugs. We beat feet quickly. We have burned tons of shoe leather the last two days and not seeing anything except two deer tonight. Any help would make two super happy kids.

Thank you,

Jason

Where exactly are you at? The northeast corner is awfully large.

I agree with the late season. I hunted for years off of the imel road. We are busting are butts in the NF with out seeing a thing. We are not looking for a exact spot or the honey hole. Just a General idea or a place to stay away from. If it was me and my friend here I wouldn't be posting we are just looking for are kids. This whole trip is about are boys.

You will find the deer numbers are down after the winters of 2008 and 2009 which took a heavy toll on the numbers and now with the wolf populations in certain areas deer are almost non existant. I usually have 20 or so does in my pasture and this last 2 weeks while I was up I only saw 2 does all week at night. I also haven't been seeing the amount of deer in the fields on my way up either. Thats up 395 along the Chewelah and Colville flats.
Deer numbers do seem to be a bit better just north of Spokane.

What's the deal about alcohol and drugs ? Sounds like, from your post, it's you guys. Wanna clear that up ? The weather has been too warm in my opion. I've seen more deer at my house since it's gotten cooler in the past couple days. There is a ton of deer around the Colville area. Maybe try out Aladdin or Smackout Pass.  :dunno:

No drugs in are camp!!!! The other people were drinking heavily and doing drugs. Sorry if I made it sound like we where.  I was posting from my phone and cooking dinner for two hungry boys. We where told we would have to fields to are selves. Then we find out there is somewhere between 10-15 people there. Then we seen what was going on and we split.

Could try the little pend Orielle refuge, usually has a lot of pressure but I've seen a lot of deer in there at times, I'd hunt the edge of the burned areas and down by the river. Hips boots would be nice down there though

Don't know how long you have or if a doe is in the picture for them but there is a ton of paper land around Newman Lake and Mt. Spokane. A little further south of Colville though.

Didn't think it was you guys, just wondering. Don't blame you for leaving. Try maybe Browns Lake past Lake Gillette or Tacoma Pass area.

If you are looking for whitetail in Colville the time to burn the leather is prior to the hunt. Once you are hunting sitting in the areas you scouted will probably be much more effective.

:yeah:  Exactly.  Don't worry though, just find a decent trail and find a stand that's not too close to roads.  That's not going to help you see a deer in daylight.  Get a 1/2 mile away from the roads and THEN sit down with the kids.

It's tempting to sit somewhere where you can see a long ways but you're usually better off sitting where it's thicker.   :twocents:

To everyone that sent me information. The two boys thank you!! We picked a area that was suggested to us and burned some leather. They both had multiple shots. I would say that buck fever was in overdrive today. We had multiple animals that where very cooperative. They where in successful in harvest but had a very successful trip. Now off to the farm to hunt the blacktail rut. If any ever needs direction on the peninsula please contact me. I also have a lot of ground in636.

Thank you,

Glad it was a fun trip in the end.  The experience counts for a lot.  As long as they had fun and keep wanting to get out then that's the bigger picture.   :twocents:
