Title: Possible New State Record
Post by: CavemantheHunter on October 22, 2012, 02:25:54 PM
There was a bear shot behind Carlton opening weekend. I talked to the guy that shot it and saw it hanging at the meat market. They were saying it could push 500 lbs and it sure looked like it. I thought it was a side of beef hanging in there! Did anyone else see that bear?

Bear weight was 331 hanging, with no hide, head, claws or guts, so I was told. Sounds like a bruiser.

I saw it with no hide and no head and it blew my mind. Not sure what the current state record is, but either way, this was a bear of a lifetime. And only a few hundred yards from town. Congrats to the hunter; he was a really nice guy.

Current state record bear is 21 10/16" for Rifle. Remember weight has nothing to do with the record, they base it on skull size.

I posted the article earlier this morning of it calling it a 600 pound bear.  It was shot behind my Dads house.  Its a 300-400 pound class bear.  Very nice washington bear.   Head doesn't look that exceptional.

Last night I was told about a bear taken on the Quinalt that's well over 22", supposed to smash the WA state record, came from a pretty reliable source.  :dunno:

Quinault bears shot over bait should not qualify for washington state records.

That's a nice bear, but no where near 600lbs. My friend shot a 600lb brown bear that would dwarf that black bear. That's still a nice black bear for any state though.

It is a nice bear the guy should be proud of.

People always over estimate a small bear, and underestimate a large one. That is a big bear..(seen and weighed many). Verified at 331 hanging, add #150-175# for hide, head, tallow,( a conservative number) then add from 15-18% for guts and there you have it 550-600#  Many older bears reach this thruout the state. Finding them a different metter! :-)
