CANNING SOUR DILL PICKLES (CRISPY) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H5t2knykS0#)
best recipe around for those asking

Good tip on soaking overnight first so there is not as much shrinkage after the hot water bath. I like to add pickling spices as well as dill though.

I pre-soak mine in alum 2 hours, prior to starting anything, makes them super crispy ;)

Cool! Do you have any recipes for sweet or bread and butter pickles?

I grew 10 acres of pickling cucumbers in high school (along with watermelons and corn). My mom would make garlic dill pickle chips out of most of them and I sold them to a few taverns and restaurants in the area to pay for my bass boat and fishing habit. That was 30+ years ago and I nor my mom can remember her special recipe. I have been toying with the idea of pickling dome garlic dills and bread and butter pickles next summer, growing my own cukes. Your video gave me some great ideas, now I have to round up some killer recipes. I don't care for the spicy stuff though. We are getting more and more into canning our own stuff, I want to add pickles to the mix.

10 acres wholy crap :yike:

pickles are actually highly poisonous. they try to warn you with their disgusting, vile flavor and rank odor. avoid these foul abominations at all costs!

The only good cucumber is a pickled one!

Made 5 gallons of pickles this year the old fashioned way with the fermenting process,I've never had pickles that were crispier.I like hot stuff so there are jalepenos, crushed red pepper added to the jars.Grew a small patch of cukes in the garden, had around 50 plants growing on a hunk of fence wire.
Did the fermented type because part of my inheritance was an old canning cookbook from my grandma who passed away early this year, she had a couple of the recipes outlined.Thought it would be interesting to try.
