Title: Little Naches / Taneum any bull tag?
Post by: h2ofowlr on October 28, 2012, 06:37:07 PM
How has the snow effected you guys.  Had one of the guys all mad as he wasn't seeing any animals in this unit and I mentioned he should have scouted.  He was pissed about the foot and a half of snow that fell.  Has the snow helped you guys or hindered your success?  I loved it when we had some snow fall.  It always made for some good hunting.  I think the guy gave up on the hunt due to the snow.   :dunno:

I have a tag for that unit right now. I just got home tonight hunted everday at 6500 ft and there was two feet+ of snow with drifts. I saw over 40 cows and calfs and at least 10 spikes but no big bulls yet, going back tuesday hopefully I will get it done. Every year I always see at least one big bull but usually more. This year has been a little weird with the earlier snow then change to rain and warming. Most likely the big bulls are hunkered down and won't move until some serious cold weather occurs. I am sure some have moved with herds. I saw an area where at least 100+ elk went through during the night.

I have a hair tag for the little Naches unit. The hunt starts on the 31st so I haven't headed to camp yet. A few of the guys that are in camp already are saying the Elk have already been pushed down and they collectively have seen one cow and calf in the last two days. I am unfamiliar with the area outside of that area the camp is at. Do I stand a reasonable chance at filling a cow tag still or has the weather screwed me? Any help would be appreciated and PM's are just fine if you don't want to post up. I would just go figure it out myself but I have limited time off and don't want to just waste my time if the animals really have been pushed out. Thanks.
