Title: Dang Near Blew It
Post by: Hunterman on October 29, 2012, 08:04:10 AM
I was thinking that the late muzzle loader deer on the west side opened the day before elk  :yike: Good thing I looked again  :yike: Would have been my luck to see a massive bull and not shoot him, then kill a nice fat buck, and get nailed  :bash:  Now that I've checked it out, I'm guarantied not to see a damn thing  :chuckle:

Funny.....   Many years ago the Elk unit I was pistol hunting overlapped a deer season by two days. So... I'm still-huntin a cow and just about step on a 4x5 Blacktail stud. I had a clear shot at pistol'a range and could have had a nice trophy.  My brain told me not to shoot. Season was over on Friday. We stood there admiring each other. (he must have been quite impressed that I could get so close to his haven)...  Anyway he finally spooked and ran the cow out of the draw too. I got back to camp later that day and tell my buddy. He promptly pointed out in the regs that the buck would have been fair game that day. (not the next day!)  I was so mad at myself for not updating myself on that location's rules.

I have never understood why late muzzleloader deer season starts a day later than everything else. Late archery for both deer and elk starts Nov 21. Late muzzleloader elk season is Nov 21. Then they have muzzleloader deer starting Nov 22. Why? I don't know. I even wrote to someone at the WDFW and complained, and asked why it was that way. Of course I never got a reply back.

I'm thinking I just might hold off for one day, just to keep the temptation away  :bash:
