My daughter (12) got her's opening day and my son (10) got his on the last day of the early season. This was my daughter's 3rd deer and it was just as much fun as the first. This was my son's first ever and we had to hunt a lot to get it done. This was the best 2 weeks of any hunting season I have ever had! Next year my youngest son becomes of age and it will be fun x's 3. My wife sacraficed her enitre early season so the kids could get as much time as possible. I hope it comes back to her in the late season.

You get to wittness a lot of "firsts" as a parent. We are an athletic family so I always compare everything to sports. I have seen them score there first touchdown, goal, basket, and other stuff but nothing compares to the excitement that comes with shooting your first deer. Most other things are going to happen over and over in sports. With hunting you are fortunate if it happens once a year so the stakes are much higher and that just takes the level of excitement, when it happens, through the roof. I have also noticed that it really adds to the young person's level of self confidence in a way that can't be compared to in anything else they will do. I think even more so with the girls than the boys. I am sure there are a few dad's out there that know exactly what I am talking about.

I will never forget my daughter first buck! I was so nervious for her but she sealed the deal and dropped it with no problems. All of my 3 boys were the same way but just not as nervious for them as I was for my daughter. She has 3 deer under her belt now and next year wants to hunt Elk with me in Wyoming. Can't get much better than that 4 kids who love the outdoors and are getting to be experienced hunters.

That is what I am talking about. I really loved it when my son got his first deer. Even this year when he got his 4th deer was just as fun....great job you guys!!!

For whatever reason I was a lot more anxious for my son than my daughter. I am learning through my kids that they are more capable than we give them credit for sometimes. About the time you think you know a kids limitations they surprise you and exceed your expectations. I think hunting lends itself to that a little more than other activities.
The other cool part ,for those of us that have multiple kids, the dynamic of the relationship changes when their siblings are not around. You really get an opportunity to find out what that kid is made of.
