I have seen a ton of deer in the 4 days ive been out...58 deer to be exact...12 of them bucks and everyone was a spike except for one i think was a small fork horn...i usually see a few bigger deer by now and they havent showed up...i watched a big spike chase a doe around for 45 min on saturday gruntin and lip curling, thought for sure a bigger one would show up and chase him off but no luck...anyone else havin the same luck? I decided to hold out for a mature buck this year or eat tag soup and all these spike are sure tempting me after eating backstrap from my sons deer
-
The little guys will start chasing does quite a bit earlier during pre rut... While the big boy sits and waits for things to heat up then steps in right before she's ready... If you're seeing that many deer that often it's only a matter of time before you run into daddy...
-
Big old Blacktail bucks aren't going to be out in daylight until the rut gets going good, couple more weeks.
-
Yeah i know they usually dont....but my spot has always showed big bucks during the last week of early season...its just been an odd season this year...ive never seen so many spikes in this area before...guess the buck to doe ratio is evening out
-
Starting to get heated up....friend got one yesterday with his car.... :chuckle: nice 3pt...
-
The rut is heating up pretty good. I know of 6 bucks 3pt and better that took dirt naps over the the past 4 days and all of them were chasing does. this last week of October in my opinion is the best time to harvest a mature blacktail.
-
Saw a big masher on Saturday chasing around a smaller buck, then sticking his nose up a does rear. I took a shot and missed, ruining both of our days :bash: :bash:
-
Sounds like its startin to...maybe my area is a little slow lol
-
well the rut was starting a little before this hot weather, i just saw 7 does together and not even a spike was around, i cant believe it! the big one i shot at last week was by himself feeding. i have passed on the small bucks and cant even find them now.
-
firm believer that the big blacktails are in the deep wood. aka in the timber.
-
Ive killed a few big bucks and every one has been in a cut...with that being said the biggest buck ive seen was a around 23" wide 4x5 and he was in the timber with no clear cuts around
-
wheres the big blacktails?
i really didnt want to release this information as i was keeping it all to myself, but i feel i just must...
the big BT's are ....

Actually they're not... I saw a post the other day where they are all hanging out in peoples yards currently.

Maybe you shot all the big bucks outa there :dunno: I know that is the case in my area ever since hunters started putting up bait stations and trail cams around every corner, didn't take long for most of them to get shot!
-
The BEST 2 days are ahead. If you can hunt all day both days hold out!
-
Nah i seen some in the velvet this summer and i missed a masher last year....they are there just havent showed up yet...drivin me nuts :chuckle:
-
Yeah i think you're about that too, and with the full moon and now mild temps what few mature bucks that i know of have been super nocturnal
You better just put a tender little spike down to rest
-
I have a tender little spike in the freezer from my boy..im holding out...i have some revege to get with a big buck from last year  im hoping late buck will be the downfall for him
-
yup late buck might be the ticket this year
-
I have some blacktail estrus and im gonna put out a scent trail late buck...that was the downfall for my last 4pt...kept him searching in the clearcut till after daylight
-
JUST LIKE 3-NAILS SAID ....This is prime time right now ...keeping going until you can not go no more
-
saw 4 does and twin spike bucks, no mashers today though. I think this wacky weather has fouled up the early rut. :bash:
-
I just got trail cam pictures of a decent blacktail last night, but in the middle of the night. This buck I only got pictures of once before, and that was 17 days ago. He's pretty much un-killable as far as I'm concerned. But at least I know he's there, and I have until next year to figure out where he spends his time during the day. Fortunately, I have a late deer permit for eastern Washington so there's no chance I'd use my tag on a blacktail. And thankfully, this buck isn't even close to being big enough to tempt me.
(pictures are blurry due to rain on the camera lens)
