After a long walk I had a pretty good day in the Yakima canyon. Went for Huns and ended up with chucker instead, no complainants here.

Nice! My Dad was a rabid chukar hunter, we hunted in the mid 60's and early 70's when the limit was 8 birds per day. We hunted around Wenas Lake and Vantage mostly but spent some time in Yakima canyon in the later years. Most of the time we were near limits all around back then. We went every Saturday, ate breakfast at home and again in Ellensburg then hunted all day and had to be back in the car in time to listen to the Huskies play on the way home. I miss those hunts, and the chukars, breaded and fried in real butter.

how do you like that franchi?

Was the craw full of grasshoppers and seed

Nice picture. I'm hoping to get and chase the redlegs here soon.

I love the franchi. It swings very well and am able to pick up on them faster. It really fits me well. I actually had got my first double with that gun which was the real intent on that picture.
Yes the craws were full of cheat seed and grasshoppers or just plain empty. I never knew about the grasshoppers being part the late season diet.

A majority of the region has seen a lot of grasshoppers which reduces the need for lots of extra water. Few weeks back we hit a very nice covey and the craw was full of them as we'll as berries too. One of the draws had natural berries in the general area. They were fantastic to eat as well. Good luck in the next few weeks.
