so my bf just left for work and didn't sign off this forum, so instead of telling everyone he needs a bikini wax, I need to ask for some help... i want to go duck hunting... laying in a duck blind instead of housework, kids, or chores sounds like heaven. the problem is that my bf says i need to shoot the shotgun before he will take me... now really? c'mon aren't there like 150 chances of hitting something with every shot fired? is it really necessary to waste a day practicing? please, i need some help here guys.

You need skeet lessons.
But you could just go hand out in the blind.
-
I think you should stay home, clean the house and get the chores done. :lol4:
-
OK, if this is serious, have you ever shot a gun? A shotgun? Had hunter safety classes and can actually get a license?
So many questions, so little time!

Dear Ben2Cold. Your logic is irrefutable. Yes there is 150 chances of hitting a duck with each shot. The only thing you need to know is that you should shoot in front of the duck, not at it. This allows the duck to fly directly into the cloud of pellets. I will be more than happy to make time to teach you this critical skill. It could however call for an extended period of time laying in a blind. Make sure to bring extra coffee.
Sincerely.

i am old enough that i don't need to take the class. i have shot the AR and other rifles, but not a shotgun - i was a pretty good shot tho - good to know to shoot ahead of where they fly. really, i'd just like the reaxing time laying in the blind with my favorite guy... chores 'every time' he's playing make for a grouchy girl, so not really a good idea :)

I'd love it if my wife joined me bird hunting. Heck if she didn't want to shoot she could still bring a camera and share my thermos.
That said skeet and trap are good practice, but nothing flies like a incoming mallard.
Tell him to take you to drykes place and shoot sporting clays.
Btw if duck hunting were easy all you'd need is 6 shells a day in the blind.

Johnb317 - that is awesome! I hope your wife decides to join you soon! I worry that maybe I'm not supposed to want to join in "guy time", but i don't want to go every time... just occasionally would be nice... i know men still have to have alone time, but i want an excuse to relax too :)

My GF asks to go about two or three times a year. if I wanted her to come along I would have taken her by now.
-
Would be thrilled if the wife would go hunting, make life easier...

Maybe you should look for a gf who doesn't like to spend time with you. :dunno:

I went with a couple weeks ago to check the fields he duck hunts in and we had a relaxing and enjoyable day, i learned a lot about the sport and understand much more the relaxation associated with the sport. Sounds heavenly to me, maybe if more women knew it was about relaxing and quiet time (which many of us -as adults- don't get often), they'd be open to going with or at least understanding instead of sitting at home complaining about it.

outside of work, hunting season and volley ball season for her were joined at the hip. personal time however you want to spend it is good medicine. how can she miss me if I never go anywhere?

True, but i'd venture to guess that she doesn't feel the same if she's still asking to go. :twocents:
Alone time is important, as is quality time. My bf and I don't get a lot of time together, we both have very busy lives; therefore, if there is an opportunity to enjoy some quality time together doing something he enjoys (and i may also find relaxing), i think it would be good. *And, again... i won't ever ask to go with he and his friends, nor would i push the subject if he told me he'd rather not take me... and i hope he trusts and knows me well enouh after over 20 years of friendship and a year of living together to be able to be honest with me... otherwise i need more than a hunting form. ;)

My girlfriend goes hunting with me. She got her first deer, quail and duck last year.
She goes through the brush and doesn't complain.

That is awesome! Good for her, and good for you for taking her!!!

I told her they don't make waders that small for you. But on a lighter note. With them small feet you can get real close to the sink
I'm in room 124

Ok im back in control of the computer. Just to let everyone know my girlfreind will not be shooting at ducks or geese with me until we go to the range to shoot clays and i feel saticfide with her level of safty and marksmanship. I explained to her that shooting a static target from a set and stable pos. is vary different than tracking or trapping or leading a target. We will practice muzzle dicapline range estimation and target identification.
-
I hope she finds busting clays as fun as I do, and we will see how she likes busting ice in the late season.
-
Not only that she needs to practice shooting clays first, you and her need to find out if the shotgun fits her. Pretty important to know. You guys can shoot all the clays you want, but if the gun do not fit her she won't hit squat.
-
went out today she did pretty well first 2 for 10 then we worked on stance next 5 for 10 then we worked on stance cheek weld and the sight picture she got 8 for 10. after that she had the privilage of flinging clays for me.
-
Looks like she's catchin on.
And looks like she fixed yor spelling too :chuckle:
