On saturday it was one hell of a rainy day as many of you can remember, well dakota and i had set up a tree stand for him to hunt out of, well i should say its a climber we just had to trim some branches off for him to get up high enough, well anyways he was watching an alder patch that was bordered by a 30 year old reprod patch, it is a place i have hunted since i was a kid, well he sat there from daylight until 1pm and just flat got tired of the rain drillin him in that stand, i can say he made it longer than i would have, but anyways he gets down and i meet up with him and he tells me he needs to walk around a bit to get some heat back in his feet and loosen up a bit, we come to these 2 roads and i go down the left road and he goes down the right, by this time its about 1:50pm and fatman gets to a spot where he get down the side of this hill into the big timber, it is still just poundn down rain, he spots a deer standing in between an old growth stump and a vine maple patch, with ferns almost as tall as he was, fatman is 16 and still gets pretty worked up when he spots a deer, well he really got worked up when he figured out that it was a legal buck for him to shoot, he said when he first went to take the shot that his rifle was shaking so bad that he actually had to lower it down and regroup a bit, then he raised up got a good quick aim and touched one off, i quickly hurried right on to where fatman was as most jacked up dads would, hell i think i get more excited for my kids to get somethn than i get when i get somethn, its one hell of a happy, proud feeling, well anyways i get to him he explains everything that happened and the whole time he was shaking like a leaf, still jacked up from the adrenaline rush. it worked at great cause he smoke the lungs but didnt break any of the shoulders so he got to learn how to track a deer through some pretty tough conditions, after tracking his deer for almost 200 yrds through the timber and ferns he found his buck piled up in the only clear spot on the side of this hill, its a great buck for a 16 year old kid and a blacktail to boot, it was really somethn to me watchn how differant my boy is now from when he got his first buck when he was 10 and has managed to get one every year since, i can honestly say that my son will be able to keep are blacktail huntn herritage alive, he is a 4th generation blacktail nut and i couldnt be more proud. i only have the one picture as i havent figured out how to download the pics off of my camera, this pic is from his cell phone so it isnt to bad...

i have just always called him fatman even when he was a little tyke, probably cause he is so damn skinny, the kid eats a ton and cant put on weight, he did a bit of a fathead growin up maybe i got it from that, just a nickname, I call him fatman or little chief, no we are not natives :chuckle:. he is a damn good kid though and a hell of a baseball player and now he has found a major love for huntn, most of the time he is outback chasin coon,coyotes or ducks. i am hoping he still wants to hunt with me for extended buck so he can drag my deer out, oh yeah and now my 14 year old daughter wants to deer hunt :tup:

thanks all, i really like the dark antlers and the brow tines, this buck is young but i think it has awesome genetics, would have been nice to see him in a couple years, but i know when i was 16 there was no way i would have let him walk :chuckle: oh an did i tell you guys and gals how good and tender this deer is :EAT: :chuckle:

the story is on the 1st page, it isnt that long of a story though
