Just wanted to see what you guys thought. We were all way off on our guesses after we put the tape on him.
-
130?
Pretty hard to judge without anything to reference in the photo. Do you have any pictures while the antlers were still attached (to the deer)?
-
138
-
This one didn't load for some reason.
He's only 21 2/8 wide for a reference to size, sorry no after the shot photos he's not my buck.
-
143 is my guess
-
137 3/8
-
Here's a red solo cup for reference.
-
152 - 3/8"
-
Wow, after you stood it up, I feel like I need to change my score for the better. I need to add ten inches to my score. I am gonna have to say 146 5/8.
-
144 2/8
:yeah:
-
137
-
We measured him as a mainframe 3 point. Take note of the 20+ inch G2's, thick bases and extras.
-
Looks like the new WA state record to me. :chuckle:
-
154.
-
I am thinking 151.... But I don't know much about scoring mule deer
-
Looks like the new WA state record to me. :chuckle:
Haha I Agree
-
No guess from me unless I win something I won't give expert guess out for free. :chuckle:
-
163 1/8
-
Another
-
I'm guessing in preperation for my hunt at the end of the month. Rough guess 150 class buck
-
140+-3
-
Nice buck, love the knobby mains.
-
135-140
-
Certainly has character...

-
I came up with 153" gross. :twocents:

I came up with 153" gross. :twocents:
I guess I should have asked are we talking gross score or net? I know nets are for fishing but I assumed final/net score on my guess and I think there is a big difference on this one between gross and net.
-
I strictly score gross. Why punish or take away from an animal for horn growth? :twocents:
-

Agreed
-
Yup I'm asking gross. This buck wouldn't net much at all.
All the guesses so far are way low. The 150's and low 160's is where I was guessing though. We were amazed when we put the tape on him that's why I posted it on here.
-

I strictly shoot bucks that are so symetrical that there is little difference between gross and net....joking :chuckle: I am with you on gross versus net, count what they were given. And with this buck in particular I would have shot not only because of the size but also the character and stickers around the bases.
-
I passed a very similar buck last year, I am now kicking myself, urgh.

In a WA general season?
-
No Montana, won't pass him this year if I find him
-
153 gross. Too bad he didn't have the front forks to match.
-
153 gross. Too bad he didn't have the front forks to match.
That's why none of us thought he would score much over 160.
He's all the measurements. I know it makes no sense... He doesn't look that big but we measured him twice and got the exact same score both times. Notice quite a few inches from extras, most of them real short those are all scoreable points around his bases. Truly a unique buck and real old, probably 7 or 8 with a 24-25 inch neck.
-
Oops
-
:yike: :yike: :yike: :yike:
-
Is that a joke pic or are you saying that 3 point scores in the 190's? :o
Im hoping joke
-
20" and 21" g2's? Come on man! :chuckle:
-
think something is off. If that is a 190...I am looking at 250's. Have someone score it that does it for a living like a taxidermist.
-
Flip your measuring tape over and measure with inches not cm :chuckle:
-
Yeah you must have grabbed the wrong tape bud!
-
yeah you must be measuring it wrong, print off one of those forma off b&c's web site an use that to keep track of your numbers..no wayyy thats almost a 200 inch deer
13 inches of extras ???
-
..no wayyy thats almost a 200 inch deer
Actually it would explain that new state record buck. :chuckle:
-
Why are you adding in the extra?
-
Why are you adding in the extra?
gross score
-
Okay, I'm not seeing nine scoreable extras on there. Help me out?
-
Nice buck, but far from 190. Something definitely got mixed up on this one. I'd like to see the official score sheet if you ever get it scored.
-

Actually he is a taxidermist.
Hey I didn't believe it just as much as you guys, none of us did that's why I posted it here.
He's not my buck just some guy from Iowa I've got no reason lie. Just thought you guys would find it interesting. Look at the measurements it makes sense if you add it all up... Kinda. True story though I'm tellin ya
-

Like I said several of them are those shorties on his bases. They were over an inch... So we counted them. Take them off the total if you like still an impressive 3 point.
-
Absolutely is a very impressive three point.
-
Seriously though, if something looks out of whack tell me I'm not trying to be defensive maybe we did screw something up. For a 21 inch wide three point? Didn't make sense to me either
-
how are you measuring each point ? to the center of the beam or the edge of the beam ?
also ya might wana re do your math..i got 182 an some change lol always fun to do some fun math for once :chuckle:
i could have read it wrong tho
-
Was this a Washington buck?

Did you read the left horn total as 72 or 82? I read it as 72 the first time too but it's actually 82 I double checked all the measurements ad up to 82. He measured it to the center of the beam.
JLS No sir this is a Wyoming buck. I'm in ralston staying with a friend right now who is a taxi.

pretty sure your saposed to go to the edge of the beam..as if the point was not even there..not 100% sure tho
-
I am no expert... At all. He seems to be though. That wouldn't change the score a whole lot I don't think. Probably enough to bump one of our buddies back into 1st place for the big buck contest though so I'll ask, I know he measured from the middle of the beam though because i thought I had just learned something new.
Aren't those bases fricken awesome though?
-
for sure, its a great buck ! ive seen a few blacktails with a similar set up before an there nothing short of amazing
-
The points are measured from the edge of the antler not the center. If there is some sort of a better for bragging rights between buddies I would just have the measured by an official scorer. It is free and most of those guys can do it in about 10 minutes per rack.
-
Heres what I came up with. I think there is some math mix up on your sheet because this was more than generous on lengths and mass measurements. I just dont see 13" of extras in there but who knows.Looks like your sheet has a few extra measurements on the left hand side, but like I said what the hell do I know. Nice buck by the way, love the trashy bases.

-
I must be high. One guy claiming 190 and another 176. UNREAL
-
Yeah I dont know I'm no expert. Not sure why he was measuring the points the way he was, but not measuring from the center of the horn (again no idea why he did it) would disqualify about 10 inches worth of extras (all those extras on his bases) off the score, as well as drop the total by several inches, bringing it to a more believable but still pretty amazing score for a 3 point! When the guys brought him in they were claiming they had killed a 200 inch "nasty one" so I think Dusty was stretching the tape a little to make the guys feel better. There had also been some whiskey flowing.
Like I said I'm no expert at scoring by any means, but it's funny how many people try to guess the score of an animal without actually taking into consideration actual inches of horn.
-
When you added the red solo cup (song singing in my head) for reference it really illuminated how big this guy is.
Points are measured from the edge of the mainbeam. That explains my confusion on all the extra points (but not my confusion in general).
What part of WY (general). I killed a buck in SE WY years ago that has the same conformation, giant back tines and forks, tall, boxy rack.
-
Somewhere in the NW region, near a town named clark is all I know.
The cool part is this buck was not a local deer, that area is farmland and foothills. This was a mountain buck with dark pine pitch covered horns. Not many pine trees around, I'll bet he came a long ways, just a lot earlier than the rest of the migrating deer. He was killed in open sagebrush foothills, they jumped him from his bed between some big rocks, at least that's the story we were told.
-
When do we get the official green gross score?
-
We won't know it. Those boys who killed it will probably get it officially scored at home because chances are no one will believe them but they live in Iowa and I'm home now. The guy who actually pulled the trigger didn't care what it scored his brother is the one who insisted on putting a tape on it and said its gotta be 200. Let him think it, that thing is gonna look cool on the wall no matter what the score is.
-
:dunno: What? A guess the score thread with no answer? :yike: You are such a tease. :chuckle:
-
:sry:
I gave a score but it was disputed... Now I'm home and will let you guys decide what it scored through pictures on the internet :chuckle:

:yeah: It will look awesome on the wall no matter the score. The score sheet I put together was based on the numbers from the sheet on page 3. I think its probably closer to a 155"-160" buck and an overall stud of a three point.
-
:dunno: What? A guess the score thread with no answer? :yike: You are such a tease. :chuckle:
He said 194+
-
:yeah:
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it
-

Stud 3 point.
-
I like the bases on this deer a lot. I'd like to see field pics if there are any?
-
No field pictures this is the best I can do. Again... Not my deer. Someone brought it into my buddies taxi shop.
-
He does appear to have the longest g2's I recall seeing on a mulie. My elk usually don't have 20 inch swords.
-

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
Lots of 200 class deer falling this year and a 3pt at that. Just think if they would have let him walk what he would be next year? Nice deer for sure I would have had to shoot.
-
This is the funniest thread I have seen in a long time. 194 lol
-
Cool Looking buck!
-
No worries, actually that shop picture gives new perspective. So tall!!
