Title: Best 50 cal muzzleloader?
Post by: Naches Sportsman on November 05, 2012, 11:33:33 AM: I am wanting to get into something new. What do you all shoot? I want to make a decision by Christmas. I figure a 50 cal would be a good gun for deer and elk. Any suggestions on what brands and models I should consider would be great.

However, if you want to go more traditional I am sure others have some good insight on that. I used to hunt with a .54 cal Lyman but the in-lines are really nice and easier to clean.

Get the Knight DISC Extreme with the Western Kit. It has a lot of advantages and is reallt an accurate shooter + the the true bolt makes it a very strong action... You also have a lot of options available for projectiles and sabots.

My two favorite projectiles are the .458-300 Bloodline for elk and the .458-275 Bloodline for deer - actually the 275 grain Bloodline is a great all-around bullet. Both of these bullets are 45-70 cal. I shot em both with 110-120 grains of T7-3f and a #11 Mag cap, normally the RWS 1075+ cap for hunting and the CCI #11 Mags for target practice. Sight either bullet in at about 3" high at a 100 yards and you can shoot to 175 yards using the same hold on the sight.

I have the Williams Peep sight for it that makes it very easy to shoot quarters at 100 yards with 275 grain Bloodlines... It has got to be one of the most deadly accurate combinations. :tup: One bad Smoke pole thats for sure. My dad shoots the Knight Disk Extreme now. I have yet to shoot it but Sabot is correct. It, as well as the Bighorn is extremely accurate. Good luck

Post by: RClare1223 on November 05, 2012, 06:50:35 PM: I shoot a traditions vorktek and love it. I can keep it under 4" @ 200 yards. I shot my bull with it off hand at 203yrds. It also only weighs about 6lbs so i can carry it all day.
