hunted a gated road today. ive seen a few cows in this area in the past. so i know there elk in this area. started the hunt around 0745. walked down the road to about half way down. look up towards the hill and see a deer bugout across the top of the hill. me and son keep walking get down towards the end of the road. i see some elk crap on the side of the road go up about another 50 yards and there's more crap on a old grown over road to the right. we walk down the road and check out the open timber dont see anything so we head back towards the road we came in on. start walking back up the road with my son i look to the left after we get about 20 yards up the road down in the timber i see what looks like a elk bedded down between two trees about 70 yards down hill. i motion to my son to stop and crouch down. i look trying to make out if its a bull but its too dark between the trees. i see it move and turn the opposite way. but could not verify. so i wait for a few minutes walk down to were i saw it in the timber .found some tracks and crap. but no sign of the elk. my quess is he bugged out for the thick stuff. the funny thing is he just walked off, most of the time they usually take off when you see them ,but the timber was pretty thick in this area. did not want to push them any more ive backed out in the past and ran into them in the same area later. going to check out the area again tommorow. wish me luck thanks.

Good luck tomorrow! I have also seen that and come back later and busted them. Remember that Elk move alot so you may not see them in the same area, just stick with it!
