-

Thats a Chicago elk! :yike:
-
The bull is a Criptoid / Cryptorchid, meaning his testes never dropped. Its a genetic thing and has kept him sterile, this is usually self resolved after age 2, he must be a young one, it also makes their testosterone do weird crap. there ya have it folks
-

Looks legal to me, gonna go cut it up Thursday and will take some pics, they have it ready to get a euro mount done on it.
-
I hunt 578 quite a bit and 3 or 4 years ago i shot what i thought was a young cow but when we gutted it had two little balls inside that never dropped. first hermaphrodite elk i have seen but now theres another. by the way i was archery huntin so a cow was legal.
-
So is it a Bow or a Cull...dang I hate it when they do that... :chuckle:
-
I have seen a buck shot like this, it has to do with a hormonal imbalance. It should be fine to eat!
-
I would shoot it!
-
I think I would have to pass on TIMMY!!
-
:yeah: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: looks good to me. :dunno:  :chuckle:
-
Good job removing it from the gene pool!
-
Good job removing it from the gene pool!
It was never in the gene pool, poor guy couldnt pass on his genetics if he wanted :chuckle:
-
They may have eventually dropped!
-
just looking at that thing makes me cringe. that is nasty and i dont think i could eat it...
-
Abuddy of mine shot a spike buck in the coweeman that was the same way. Shot in November, velvet on antlers, 12 inch spikes with bases you cant put your finger between, and no nuts. Wierd for sure!
-
GLad you shot him, he probably voted for both gay marriage and mari jane....
-
This thread is showing these freak elk are all from S/W washington. Anybody see the them elsewhere, other states ? :dunno:
-
So would you need to have a Neither Sex tag?
-
Good to shoot, just to get it out of the gene pool. Eventhough it probably couldn't reproduce.
-
No way on earth I'd eat that mutated elk!
-
No way on earth I'd eat that mutated elk!
Meat probably would be great. Not all rutted up.
-
So would you need to have a Neither Sex tag?
:yeah:
don't know if i have seen anything like that in Boone and Crocket under neither sex catagory
-
lol weird photoshoped? or legalised marijuana on his antlers? Bring out the bong lol.
-
So you guys that wouldn't eat it:
Do you also not eat triploid trout?
-
he might have castrated himself on a log or something, cactus bucks are the same way they take them off or injure them some how from what i have been told. throws there hormones all out of whack. makes mine sore just thinkin about it.
-
hell no but not because theyre triploid, because theyre trout... :chuckle:
-

i answered this pages ago, he didn't castrate himself on a log :chuckle:
-
Perfect bull for this election year!
-
Lack of testosterone, so the antlers don't harden and the velvet stays on. They also don't shed ,so I'm told. They just keep grown lightwieght antler and can grow some huge racks but more like sponge than bone. I hear most become winter kill do to the blood flow through the velvet dropping body temp.
-
The first buck i saw harvested was a cactus buck. It had no nuts, but it didnt have velvet. The antlers were a blueish color and softer than normal antlers.
-
Bummer no Rocky Mountian Oysters. :chuckle:
In Germany they are called a Perückenbock. (Buck with a perm) You can eat the meat because there is nothing wrong with it. And the answers stating that it is due to a lack of testicles is place is correct and the Antlers are never shed. Here is a link to one of the more famous ones from Germany http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Perueckenbock.JPG&filetimestamp=20090912143147 (http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Perueckenbock.JPG&filetimestamp=20090912143147)
He is located at the Hunting and fishing Museum in Munich. If you are ever there it is a great museum that is real close to downtown.
-
That is very weird....It looks like he scraped something out of the Coral reef. Is it just a moldy long velvet material? Would he even taste good?
-
Crazy! Thanks for posting the pics.

Hell no! Especially the ones out of Beaver Lake :o
-
Definately have never seen anything like that out in the woods before.
-
It has an eygaurd and a fork on top, how is that not legal?
-
that's probably the best tasting meat you'll get, no rutting smell, and taste like cow.
-
What is it with the SW elk, they have hoof rot and no nuts :dunno:
Must be the water
Its all the westside rain. Causes depression and this is what happens!!
-

not an elk story but 3 years ago my buddy's dad shot a 4 x 4 muley in wyoming middle october that was still in velvet...gutting him out he had no testes and while hauling/driving him out got stopped by the local game warden who took one look at the buck and said that he bet the buck didn't have any "walnuts"-said a couple bucks shot in that area the last few years had the same affiction...that would make me think its heridetary ?

But the genes could only be passed on through does?

A gene could be a recessive gene carried by the mother and only expressed through its male offspring which is infertile. Since the mother could be a carrier of this particular genetic mutation it would be passed to its female off spring and expressed only through male offspring.
-
Me and my wife were just talking and it made me think. The hairy guys that do the caveman commercials....do they not have testicles??
-

actually they have the opposite.... more testosterone= more manly features.
-
Male's could also carry the gene, if it were recessive, and heterozygous males would appear normal, while homozygous recessive males would be born without testes.
