I have a buddy with a westside tag that needs some help maybe in those to units not looking for honey holes just some input or good access areas. Or is it even worth trying :dunno:

C-Post!
Hah......don't anyone get yourself all worked up. If there is anyone I'm going to send to the fabled C-Post it is this joker!
(further disclaimer: for anyone that is still considering getting worked up please consider that D-Rock is my buddy and he knows 100% that I am full of garbage)

460 in the Eastern foothills behind Carnation/Duvall, there is a decent size herd with a few big bulls in it... or at least I was told by some hardcore hikers that go back in that area quite a bit during the year... I thought about moseying back in there, there is a ton of FSR back out of Carnation... most of em gated too...

C-Post!
I still don't get this, as C-Post is a real road....
-
C-post is not in those units because that would be my first choice. If it was i wouldn't even be asking for help we'd be tagged out already.

:chuckle: HaHa!!!

my mind is somewhere else...what the f**k is C-post...I know I am missing something.
-
To me, It's a forest service road that covers old timber stands in Snohomish/Skagit County....
As far as the neverending joke goes, idk...
-
Oh h2o you started it now.

This is what I know as C-Post... a road that leads up the Stillaguamish foothills between Oso and Darrington. below and around Mt. Higgins. The road sign used to say C-post, it now reads E-post. I lived 5 miles down the highway from it for half of my life, so I get confused when I hear and am told that it is not a real place. If it is based on a joke that there is no animals in here, then I am now fully in touch with said joke and agree :chuckle:, save for maybe a few bears, I've shot a bear up there...... 16 years ago! lol

Nice picture.
-
Success rates are pretty low for both units.
-
Nothing but Grouse in these parts... it's funny really, since just ten miles east I have a sweet hidden area that produces like crazy... except for this year :bash:...
-
I have been all over the 460 since that is where I live. I have seen sign in places. I have been told about places but the only place I have seen elk is in the fields between North Bend and Snoqualmie.
-
Any older Sno. Co. Steelheader knows where C-Post is. Caught my fare share there, and probably someone elses

:yeah: Exactly! Not far from Fortson.... Great Steelhead area and Flyfishing area in general!

Make sure you know what land is what behind carnation. Some of it is hancock. You can hunt it, but you must have a permit. Even to walk in hunt
-
Good call, I always space that! but then again, have never been back there for hunting...
-
Hey D I found a good map and Lester is in the 466.

Yup used to fish at night at Fortson a lot when it was legal in the 70s. About 1' leader and a glow bobber and sand shrimp.
-
Don't forget to check out high up on the middle fork  that's where I would hunt if I wanted to tag an elk in 460. Did I mention to go high?

Harvest numbers aren't as high as some other areas, but it shows that there are elk in the units.
-
Are they more up high in the snow or down lower in the river bottoms and such this time of year on the west side of the cascades?
Are those I-90 elk just wintering in the North Bend area or do they head back over to the east side? Where do they winter?
-
They winter right where they are. They dont go back over the hill, if anything they go down to the river more. They have no reason to leave, protected land, lots of food, etc.
-
Stang.....are you the hunter for this outing? If so will you be packing the .308? That would make a killer hiking/thick stuff elk rifle.

Maybe.... and maybe....
Think the 30 round clip will be sufficient?
:chuckle:
The 10 rounder is a little more ergonomical... its my go-to for hunting needs.

Arrows work much better.
