Magpul make as pop up sight called the MBUS front. It is designed to mount on Picatinny rail. It gives multiple "warnings" on the package saying not compatible with gas block rail. Why is this. The gas block has the same picatinny rail system.
Please help
Thanks

Thanks, does it really get so hot to melt under normal firing? It is m father in law and he is not shooting that much. I have never owned an AR and can't imagine the gas block would get that hot. Any thoughts?

think if your just slowly plinking you would be fine, but if you start going cyclic rate of fire on it, :bdid: but then again it is plastic so :dunno:
Again this is just my thoughts, and I am not a expert on magpul

It's a sight hight issue, if your railed gas block was at the same level as your forearm rail then it wouldn't be a problem. If that were the case one might as well mount it to the forearm rail. Most often than not the gas block is lower than the forearm rail. The sights were designed for the front sight to mount on the rail. If you mounted the front sight on the gas block rail. Chances are it would be lower and there would be issues with "Angle" and sighing problems. The MBUS sights are just a emergency back up. I have several sets I use but purchase quality aluminum or steel sights for my serious carbines.

From their website:
NOTE: Cannot be mounted to a railed gas block due to excess heat issues.
Front MBUS must be mounted to a railed fore end on the same plane as the receiver rail. Because of this the sight is also not compatible with MOE Hand Guards.

Thanks for the advice. Any reccomendations for sights that will work with DPMS Lo-pro rifle. It has a flat top and gas block.

Hey Rebel, I'll be in E.Wenatchee on Sunday evening. I have a aluminum gas block front sight I took off a POF .308 I purchased awhile back. You can have it if it will work for you. I will never use it. Disclaimer: I have to find it buried in the depths of the reloading room.
