Title: Nuts for baiting deer?
Post by: bow_hunter44 on November 11, 2012, 07:07:32 AM: I have a couple of chestnut trees with about a bazillion chestnuts on the ground. I read that deer like peanut butter so I wondered if they would eat nuts? Any experience with something like that?

:chuckle: The logistics of spreading chestnut butter on my in-laws landscaping make the idea impossible. But that doesn't detract from the chuckle I got from the idea none the less!

They have been in the bait pile for a month....still. I thought it was going to be money in the bank. No dice! I have used acorn rage with great success but whole acorns not so much.

Post by: andersonjk4 on November 13, 2012, 09:47:03 AM: Chick peas (aka garbonzo beans) will work awesome. Used a mix of wheat and garbonzo beans earlier this year and the deer loved it. On another note I have tried the processed pea pellets used for livestock feed and the deer wouldn't even touch them. Corn, apples, garbs, and MGM have all worked really well for me in the past.

I throw squash over my garden fence. If it breaks open, then they will hollow it out. Same with pumpkin and especially watermelon.
