Title: My slap in the face
Post by: BigDaddySweet on November 11, 2012, 06:01:37 PM
I have been hunting an area exclusively this year knowing that there was a big buck in there somewhere. I passed on a smaller one early in the season hoping to see a bigger one later. Well, today I found hi,. After sitting in a clearing for 4 hours waiting and seeing all the deer going the wrong way, I decided to get up and walk back to where they all were going to see if I could find something bedded down as I only had about an hour and a half of daylight left. After walking for 15 minutes I stop because I feel eyes on me. I turn and look to see a little doe staring dead at me. At this point I am willing to shoot anything legal and scoper her to see if she has a couple 2 inch spikes I cant see. As we stare at each other the deer I have been looking for chases a doe to within 30 yards of me and stops and looks at me. I put the crosshairs on him as he politely waits. I squeeze the trigger. *CLICK* :bash: MISFIRE! I try to jack in a round quickly but he ran through some trees and couldnt get a clean shot. I stalked him for a little while and found him about 10 yards on the other side of the property line. Tempting as it was I did not take the shot. Well at least I got out and stomped around in the woods for a bit. Better luck next week!

Did you check and see why the gun went click  :dunno: Bad shell - broken firing pin - or anything else that caused it ....

Definitely check to see what's wrong with the gun/cartridges.

Might be worth it to go shoot a box to make sure that NEVER happens again.

That happened to me once, while I was trying to shoot My first buck. Belly crawled up on a nice 3x4 sitka blacktail. I pulled the trigger, and "click". He ran off. I cought up to his buddy later, and shot him.
I just had a bad bullet.

I think it was a bad primer. It has happened before where the primer was punched and didnt go. Then i put it back in and it shot!

Might be the primer bit not likely. Prob is a light sticking firing pin. :twocents:
Clean it really good and fire a few.
