Leave for late deer camp this afternoon a little late.... Set up, find, cut, and split dry wood... Kinda hard on the wetside now... The usual things for a late deer camp are almost all done and about time to relax with a beer around a fire with my Dad and Uncle... Then my Dad gets a call... (i don't get service, he does, at&t vs verizon, go figure)
It's my wife with news that wasn't good so I had to rush home to get there in time for my kids getting off the bus... My wife manages a retail store and this is their busy season... 2 of her coworkers called out today along with the next few weeks atleast.... One found a lump on her breast which is confirmed cancer.... Another is a lot older and going in and out of reallity all of the sudden... So my wife has to pick up all their shifts until a shcedule is remade to cover...
I told my wife I'd stay home for late season to help with anything... It's only 4 days anyways.... (she had these 4 days off for me to take late season off but now doesn't) She said ok and we just got done with dinner.... Then I get a call from her Grandpa... I get the kids to him in the am and go hunting... He can handle them the rest of the week.... I tell him what happened and he says I know... I was told... Hunting season is short and once a year.... Go.... Just pick them up Sunday night!!
I am almost at a loss for words... I know I'm going to go... And can't thank my wife and her Grandpa enough... (it was her idea) But almost feel kind of guilty because of the facts even though I know I could change nothing with the situation at hand other then help my wife....
Don't really know why I posted this... But best of wishes to those two women at that store....

What a wonderful family you have there.

My wife and her family really pull together for me at hunting season also...I'm military and my family is a long ways away. They understand that it's short and once a year also.
Hope those ladies heal quick! And get the man some whiskey, or his poison on your way home as a Thank You!

Only feel guilty if you don't get one.
Just kidding. Good luck on your hunt.

Well good luck!! Which late permit did you draw?

Why I don't own a cell phone. :)
Sorry for her troubles. She sounds like a hard worker. Few and far between these days. Good for her.

I got lucky enough to draw the late modern deer season with everybody else who didn't tag out already... :chuckle:

JMO! But..
No reason to make the hunt no fun if you cant enjoy it. Sometimes sticking it out with the wife is more rewarding. You can always make it up next year and maybe she will let you have more time off.
In reallity its just a deer. Could be a record once in a lifer but still. lol. She wants you to go and enjoy the last few days you have..How could you let her down? Good luck!
Sounds like a great family!

Thank your family and enjoy your hunt....if they care enough to figure this out for you they know you love to hunt and want you to go have fun

Kowsrule, you mentioned that you were not sure why you posted this... My observation is that you saw a lot of good in people, folks covering for others, and you were a benficiary this time too. Pay it forward later. I bet you already will...

Well thank you all for the kind words... I'm off in about an hour... Well when I get off of here.... :chuckle:
Bone.... In a lot of areas I think my wife is a harder worker then myself..... Thanks....
