so its on yet still! firswt time making apple butter, the dry run went amazing so wer eoff and running with a 50 gallon garbage can we got off....craigslist! everyone is willing to give unwanted apples (can you say deer bait too lol)
wash
peel
fill a LARGE pot with cut up pieces, stop 3" from the top
add 4-6 cups of water (2" below the apples
simmer for few hours, or until its broken down like apple sauce
occasionally mashing up to break them down faster
let it cook down, as it starts to break down to apple sauce, when it looks like apple sauce its ready to can
add 4-6 cups of sugar,
2 table spoons of cinnamon
2 table spoons of butter
and a thickening agent if you want it more jelly like, or it will be runny
bring to a rolling boil for 1 minute
now, can it
for a extra treat of apple cider, while cooking add an extra quart of water, when its half cooked remove 1 qt, add 3 TBSP of sugar, cool, you got kick ass cider  add 3-4 shots of whiskey and you got HARD CIDER
YUMMMMMY! :chuckle:
we will end up with about 50 jars for under $20

A couple of weeks ago the wife and kids did up 10 bushel baskets worth of apple butter, apple sauce and apple pies. Man, the deer really loved all the leftover peelings! We had a bumper crop of king apples this year and have enough stuff canned to last for several years.
