Title: We could use a little Teanaway help
Post by: ANDERWAGON on November 15, 2012, 10:41:44 AM
I'm planning to take a buddy that is handicapped on his muzzleloader cow hunt. I had planned to do some earlier scouting for him but between the fire and my hunting season I failed to do so. His hunt is December 9th thru the 16th. Unfortunalty I'm pinned to just the weekends and maybe one week day. There are 10 permits for this hunt and I'm wondering if any members or members friends have the same tag? I'm also hoping someone can give us some insight as to the wintering patterns. I know I'm asking a lot but would be grateful for a simple head East, North, West PM. For him a perfect situation would be if I could roll him, carry him or quad him into an area with a decent vantage point and dog around him. Let it be as much of a real hunt as possible. A perfect situation for me would be to drift the truck sideways to a stop and let him poke one on the uphill side using the mirror as a rest (just kidding).

Thanks

Have you tried knocking on some landowners doors to get permission to hunt?

I plan to do just that. I had some time during the late summer but didn’t want to be banging on doors asking to hunt when folks were worried about there places burning. We're getting down to crunch time and I'm feeling a little behind. If it was for myself I wouldn't have asked for help on the forum. I'm just trying to make sure I make a good effort to increase is chance of success. He can only handle a few cold days in the field at a time.

Thanks

I have that bull tag too on those dates and was planning on scouting but due to the economy and needing money I have been working 60+ hours a week since April to try and catch up. I am trying to get over there a couple times pre season still to look around and do have a little info but would be willing to help what I can while there. I did help 2 people get elk in Montana last year on my elk tag there. One a cow that he gave to needy families and the other his first bull ever.

I will keep an eye out. There are multiple options depending on where the elk are staging! I have a few ideas that might have a more authentic feel of a hunt with fairly easy access.

I will be in there the 9th-13th trying to fill my bull tag.  I will keep an eye out for you, if I come across a cow with good access where do you think you'll be staying, what will you be driving?  shoot me a pm if you want.  Hope it works out for the both of you!
