Word is this non-typical American elk was taken in Washington's Blue Mountains near Pomeroy.

Why do people post up spots on the internet?
You'll have every Joe blow and his brother running through the woods bugle in one hand and hochie mamma In the other going to town shooting at everything that moves!
-
I somewhat know the guy that guided the hunter(hunter is his nephew) to this elk and has helped people kill several big blues elk in almost the exact spot over the last few years! one hell of a bull for your first elk

Who cares? :dunno: That was a permit bull buddy :chuckle:
I know what you mean generally but in this case it isn't something to worry about because that bull isn't OTC.

The hunter is from Pomeroy. The elk was killed in the Blue Mtns. Probably the Wenaha East or West. Perhaps the Tucannon. It is a draw only special permit, which guys wait years to draw. And for the record, I hunt deer in Pomeroy and Dayton. We see elk every year for years on opening weekend of modern deer season. The special permit holders, archery, muzzy, etc. push them out of the Blues into the foothills, They get pushed back to the Blues when the modern deer hunters have their season. Go down there Nov-March and you will see plenty of elk pushed out of the Blues in those units, because of snow. I go watch them every year.

Ya me and my bro inlaw were deer hunting that area a few years back,, just after the school fire lots of elk opening morning just get up passed the national forest boundary sign.
We had a huge 6x6 come within 100 yds of us while siting and watching and listening to them.
Come elk season nothing lol as it usually goes though.

:dunno: :dunno: THERE ARE NOT ELK UP THERE atleast i have never seen one :dunno:

Look at the big picture. The blues are tiny in comparison to most fabled elk habitat. If you stretched out all those wrinkles it would be pretty good sized and over run with all manner of human. Nasty enough to raise great elk and keep most folks away with an agricultural fringe to feed them. The hunters move them around a little but hidey holes are every where. Not much food for most of the year up high, lots to eat mid range and low. Guess where you can find most of the elk. Hint: Columbia county crop damage from elk has topped the states pay out many times. Elk do not mind walking a long ways for a good meal.

Exactly!!

I have hunted Pomeroy for 10 years. Our area is mostly farm land and the snake river. I see Elk while deer hunting every year. Each year the Elk population is increasing. I saw a very nice bull this year, 350 class.
-
ya get up in the trees in the Umatila national forest and theres elk.
-
Those are big mule deer all you guys are seeing.... No elk up there. Wolves got them all!
-
supprised this came up. any one that has been on this site for very long knows THERE ARE NO ELK IN THE BLUES. there have been countless threads about the bigfeet & other preditors that wiped them out years ago. sheesh.
-

Its a Quality Hunt . Other than the 20 permits for big bulls it is a spike hunt. It is not a secret to the Quality of big bulls in these areas.
-
I was waiting for someone to say that. :yeah:
Read the regs and the harvest reports. The Blues are no secret. Just be prepared to wait half your hunting life to get drawn for a tag. Then get your money out to high an outfitter or scout it as much as possible. Hard hunting...
-
weird how the town people get drawn so much :dunno:

I always thought that too. Seems like plenty of local farmers get tags. I think the game department issues land owner tags if the cooperate and open up a portion of their land to the public to hunt. I was told by one farmer, who I hunt deer on his property, that he was given 1 big bull elk tag and 2 cow tags.

Me and my Buckley cousins will start puttin in for this here Blues place to get us a biggin!!!!! Bigfooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Landowners get cow tags only to the best of my knowledge. At least the several that I know only get cow tags.
Also, it's not mainly the "town people" who get drawn. It seems to me like 80% of the tags go to people from over the mountain. some locals do get drawn because almost all locals apply for hunts over here.
-
the locals statement isn't very true, I have talked to some that are just pissed that they didn't get it again this year :bash: :bash: what does happen is the appearance of locals getting them due to the fact the local have friends and family that apply and when they get drawn they (locals) run them around (on land you can only wish to hunt :bash:)
-
I know the guy very well and the last thing he would want is people to blow up the spot. It is never good to hint to a spot to someone who hasn't put a lick of time in. Best I can say is that the bull was killed in Washington. :bdid:
-
Love that bull. Kyle why don't you post an intro, show us some pics?
-
What did it score?
-
It only went 195 its the biggest white tail I have ever seen.
-
"Damn nice elk & Congratulations"..............
-
Man,
Me and my 15 points are heading right to Not selected this year. For somewhere on the east side. Nice bull anyways.
