Title: addicted to archery

Took my son out opening day for his first archery late deer season and what an awesome experience it was. It all started out leaving the truck in the dark to get to the spot that we wanted to hunt by light. Noticed one person was already in front of us but its a popular spot so was not concerned at that point. When we came to the time to head up the hill to the stand, it appeared that this hunter had the same idea, so we honored this and moved further up the hill and down the ridge to get to a different draw we wanted to hunt. By now it was getting light and we stopped to take a quick breather when all of a sudden my son says buck!! I looked straight ahead and see horns coming behind two does, so I told him, get an arrow nocked! As the does fed out of a small patch of trees into an opening about 20 yards or so the buck was just entering into the clearing when he lifted his bow when one doe saw the some movement and trotted off. The buck stood there for a few seconds long enough for him draw back then quickly left with the does. Shortly after that encounter we eventually got to our spot. We finally got settled in for the morning. After sitting for a little while we saw a spike just up hill from us which was pretty cool to just watch him do his thing. After he wandered off I turned my attention in the opposite direction due to the swirling wind and caught movement in the trees and brush behind us. Quickly I dropped to my knees as my son turned around to see what was going on he sees nothing but antlers coming through the trees. It was a nice big 6X6 bull! The bull walked to within ten yards of us and turned broadside like he was taunting was. We watched the bull maneuver his antlers through trees and disappeared onto the woods. Full of excitement we were saying how great the day was so far. Little did we know it was soon going to be even better. It didn't take to long searching the hillside before we spotted another deer moving in the trees up hill of us and disappeared just a fast as she showed up. Then within a few minutes or so it seemed, my son grabbed his bow because he saw a buck. I thought it was a big 2 point but after looking him over with my binoculars I could see he was a 2X3, he's a shooter I said. The buck started heading down the tree line at roughly 45 yards away. Worried the buck was not going to come our way I gave a couple doe bleats, wow that got his attention and he came in on a string. As the buck approached my son came to full draw and the buck stopped by a little pine tree looking for the doe. The buck stood there quartering to us at 25 yards (not the preferred shot for a bow hunter)  knowing my son is a good shot I told him to put it in the small pocket in front of his shoulder. He squeezed off the shot and dropped him. When we walked up to the buck to get our first good look at him we were pleasently surprise the buck had nice eyegaurds. What a Great Buck! Glad everything worked out!! By far one of the best day of a dads life!!!! Very very proud of my son!!

It's all about the hunt not the score. Being able to share the moment with family or friends makes it even more special. Also, That sounds like a great spot. Way to go.

Nice archery buck. He looks pretty excited. The kid looks familiar. Pretty sure I have him in class (initials K.C.?).
