I have two load so far that work really well in my XDM 45acp.
(1) 4.4grs. of Hodgdon Titegroup powder, CCI 300 primer and a Montanna Gold 230gr. CMJ or HP bullet.
(2) 8.0grs. of Accurate Arms #5 powder, CCI 300 primer and Montanna Gold 230gr. CMJ or HP bullet.
Good groups with both loads and pleasure to shoot.

Wonder how those loads would work with XTPs ... might have to try it out. since I have everything but the powder.

Only reason I have usied Montanna Gold Bullet is because two other buddies of mine order 3000 bullets. We split the cost and bullets. The Montanna Gold HP bullet looks like a XTP bullet but gold color jacket.

I have shot somewhere around 20k (probably much more) of Bear Creek Moly 200gr SWC in front of 4.5gr of Titegroup. Don't worry about the primer, they all work! As far as OAL on the SWC, just leave enough lead above the rim so that the lead rides up the ramp (about a thumbnails width above the rim) crimp so that there is no "bump" or lip from the bullet to the brass. This is about the cheapest round you can load.
Don't use Titegroup with "regular" lead bullets, make sure they are moly coated or jacketed. Titegroup burns very hot and will smoke plain lead bullets, you will look like a choo-choo train! To answer your question, Titegroup is perfect for the XTP's.
If you are shooting plain lead bullets, use Clays (not Universal Clays) or WST (Winchester Super Target). I prefer WST as it is softer shooting and meters much better than Clays, Clays is also much "snapier" in recoil at the same power factor. Winchester 231 is also a favorite of mine but it is a little dirtier than WST. The only thing that you have to worry about with WST is that it is reverse temp sensitive. When it is hot outside WST will shoot with less power if you leave the ammo out in the sun, it can be quite noticeable but no problem unless you are shooting competition. I haven't gotten it hot enough where it won't cycle the slide though.
The good thing about Titegroup is that it is the cheapest followed by Clays and then WST/W231, that is why I use it. Titegroup, as I said is a very hot, violent powder, and will heat your barrel quicker than the other powders (it is much more noticeable), I just keep shooting though.

We must be a little careful when suggesting lead bullets.
ddjj1991, what pistola are you shooting? (Glock does not recommend lead bullets in their polygonal barrels).
Tha said, much of 300Rum's information is great. For light target loads, a 185gn or 200gn LSWC or LRN bumped by 4 to 4.4gns of Bullseye is a great plinker but a lighter recoil spring may be required for the lighter load. For warmer loads I've used win231 pushing a 265gn LTC on bowling pins that results in devistating impact that would be great as a hunting round. (work up your loads with safety in mind)

I have an uopened 1lb Titegroup I'd like to sell. :dunno:

Agree with you Jackelope..
I use nothing but Laser Cast for my lead bullets. Both 45 acp and 44 Spl. They work great and no need for the "butt pan"(as my buddies kid called it... :chuckle: :chuckle: ) to stop the deformation of the lead.

I load 5.0 grn bullseye behind a LRDFP 200 grn bullet. Works well for my 45 but it took a lot of work to figure out. Unique did not work well in my pistol.

6.8gr VV N340 Powder, CCI LP Primer, and 230gr Rainier Ballistics JHP bullet
Chrono'd at 972 fps, If I remember correctly the pressure is 17,800 CUP
Great load though, love shooting it from my buddies XDs

For plinking and targets, I'd use whatever is cheap.
.45acp wouldn't be my first choice for hunting. It would be really far down my list of hunting choices.

Same thing I was thinking.

Ireload several calibers, the 45acp isn't one of them. I use several reloading manuals to develop my powder load. speer bullets, federal cases, cci primers. Works pretty good for me.

I think that is a fair statement, but realize that a 45acp in the hands of a good shooter can still take a Blacktail/Whitetail doe at close range. A lot of people used to shoot Mountain lions out of trees with 38spl. No reason a 45acp can't do the same. Not my first choice for handgun hunting either, but if the load is right it is possible. I know a guy that hunts Yotes with a 45-70.. (The doggies just kinda rattle when he picks one up.. No exit hole.)
