Title: Finally, A Decent Washington Buck on Cam ***Pics Added***
Post by: BlacktailBowhunter on November 28, 2012, 07:18:10 PM
I have had apples out in several spots with no luck, so last week I changed gears and went looking for more fertile grounds.

It took him 5 days to find them and he came back for more. I am glad I was out today to replenish. If he keeps coming in, I am going to buy a tag, hang a stand, and start hunting him.

A doe was in at 5:05 and I think this guy was with her just off camera. I will back trail until I get him on daytime pics.

Little bitty three, he's perfect.  That way you wont be distracted by his rack when you're aiming.

He is a small 3, but in that area, he is actually a big buck. For whatever reason, the racks don't get real big in this particular area of the Winston unit.

I have hunted up there off and on for 10 years and my friend lives there year around and hunts it hard. This is actually a fairly decent buck for that area.

My friend's son killed a buck about the same rack size and he weighed in at the butcher shop just meat and bones at 148 pounds.

This is the largest BT I was able to get on cam.  He started showing up just before Halloween and finally during the day on 11-11:

I didn't mean to talk smack, I know how blacktails go.

Most blacktail I've seen weren't that big.  I just meant he is compact.  I remember seeing a buck a lot like him the last time I hunted blacktail, down in the Mossyrock actually and I was dissappointed I didn't get a shot

Well, I got this guy coming in on a regular basis this week. I sure hope he keeps coming in as I plopped down the money for a non-resident tag to try and harvest him.

He should have been at my taxidermist, but instead he is still running the hills. I blew the only opportunity I had on him. He busted me drawing my bow at 19 yards. He showed back up on trail cam 2 days later but nocturnal and then I never saw him again.

I hunted my blind daylight til dark 4 more days and passed on does and a small buck hoping he would return but to no avail.

I still have 2 weeks and plan to try and get another one patterned. It will be a miracle if I can pull it off, but I got to try.
