Title: Wdfw at it's finest!
Post by: Opportunist on November 29, 2012, 08:09:35 PM
I talked to an employee at Les Schwab in Hood River Oregon on my last hunting trip and we started bs'in hunting. He was given an incentive tag this year for early reporting on his 2011 harvest reporting. His tag was a second deer doe tag for archery up by spokane on a unit that is mostly private. The big kicker is not the fact he doesn't bowhunt or have access to land to hunt, it's that the game department ZEROED out his points for his second deer. He said he can't get anywhere with Olympia to reinstate his points and the season has came and went.

What a crock! I still can't believe it. You know the game department is so pathetic that they give out tags that no one wants, pat themselves on the back and call it incentive, get a life.

That doesn't sound right. Is there a chance he's confused? I've never heard of a 2nd deer tag given out as an incentive tag. How would he even know his points were zeroed?

I agree. I think the guy is confussed. Sounds like he applied (on purpose or accidentaly) for a second deer permit and not an incentive permit. I could be wrong, but something seems out of whack.

All I know is what he told me. He may be confused, lord knows the game department makes no mistakes. But he told me it was an incentive tag, not an application. Perhaps it was an antlerless tag not a second deer.

If he drew an incentive tag there's no way he would lose any points. That just doesn't make sense. Is there any way you could get him to come on here and put up a post about what happened?

Has anyone had any experience with receiving an incentive tag. I haven't had any experience other than the conversation with this guy. I was just as skeptical as you all and asked him the same questions about applying versus incentive, I do not know him other than he worked at the Les Schwab in Hood River. I do not know how he found out how or when his points were zero'd. But wouldn't he have received this tag before this years draw and if so he could have seen 0 points when he applied in late spring for the big game draw. When he spoke with Olympia they stated that was their practice on incentive tags and there was nothing they could do.

I found this:

Quote
Incentive Permit Hunts
Incentive permits are offered to winners of a computer drawing of those hunters that submitted their big game and turkey hunting reports in a timely fashion for the previous hunting season. The permit hunts available to the winners are:

5 Statewide Deer Incentive Permit Hunts
2 Westside Elk Incentive Permit Hunts
2 Eastside Elk Incentive Permit Hunts

I really doubt if any of the deer permits are antlerless. Wouldn't be much of an incentive. I know the elk permits are all for bulls. I just think that guy is really confused. Sounds like he mistakenly applied for a 2nd deer permit and drew it, and then lost his points. Not sure where the incentive tag part of the story comes in. But if he had drawn an incentive tag, he would have received it in the mail, a long time ago.

Bobcat, According to the write-up you found the guy must have been confused.

One good clue that he's confused, is that the incentive tags are good for the entire state, and for any weapon, depending on the season that's open at the time.
