Title: Winchester Model 70 .375 H&H Extractor Chip/Question Post '64
Post by: luvmystang67 on November 30, 2012, 04:45:31 PM: As the title says I have a post 64 (1970 production) .375 H&H. The extractor looks chipped to me, but I was wondering if anyone could tell if this was by design, or actually a chip. Any harm in running this? I suppose I should probably fix it if it is a chip.

Anyone have any idea how big of a job that is or the cost of the parts (or cost).

Looking for some input from the experts.

feed rounds from the magazine though.

Post by: RadSav on November 30, 2012, 11:43:12 PM: Just have it replaced. Cheap easy replacement and just about any good gunsmith will have it done in a jiffy. Can be done yourself with parts ordered online. But myself it's worth the extra time to take it to a gunsmith since I have a habit of experiencing the "Geezzes!!!" every time a spring is involved.

It would be nice to have a gunsmith take a stab at figuring out why it happened too. Probably just a defective part. But, it might be a fit issue amongst any number of things. If it is a fit issue a good smith can fix it and probably improve the guns accuracy at the same time.

So that's the other piece of this. I just picked it up from Cabelas, used, anyone ever dealt with them and defective used weapons? They told me I was buying in as-is condition but if I had any problems to bring it back within 30 days and they would do their best to make it right with me. Thoughts? Check out the deal though. Had a leupy old vari x iii 2.5-8 and the whole package was $399. I couldn't believe it. Had to make it mine.

If not it still isn't worth worrying about for the price you paid. Nice find. :tup:

WOW, your lucky that one got past me!! ;)
They will work with you but your better off to take care of it yourself. They use an out of town gunsmith and it will be gone a LONGGG time. Thats a cheap fix for the price you paid for the gun.

Post by: luvmystang67 on December 01, 2012, 05:59:21 PM: Took it back, they said no problem, it is inside the 30 day window (I had even forgotten my receipt). They sent it off to Butch Coin? Not 100% on that last name, but a gunsmith in Sedro-Woolley. Said maximum time is 6 weeks, could be faster.

Worked out great. Thanks for your input on here all!

Also, shot it before I took it in, it is going to be sweet to hunt with. Doesn't kick any worse than my .300 win mag, less actually. Excited to try it on some large critters.
