Title: Blackmouths are back better than ever

Blackmouths are back better than ever

Quote
This year I've found blackmouth consistently around bait at high slack tides in about 90-100 feet near shorelines, very much the way it used to be in the great old days of unbelievable blackmouth fishing when many die-hard salmon moochers could be depended upon to give away salmon to our non-fishing mooching friends.

Last time out, I was slowly cranking my bait up from bottom, there was a take, then complete slack. Reeling in at light speed I still didn't catch up to the 8-pound blackmouth that rocketed out of the water about 50 feet from me, leaped again and actually tail walked, then shot off south, running a good 50 yards off my old Penn 109. It leaped again, made another run right at the boat, jumped, then headed deep.

After about 15 minutes and two more surface explosions, I was able to net this fantastic fish.

Now that's blackmouth fishing.

Blackmouth fishing has been real good this fall. Due to pending neck surgery, I have not been out in about a month. From all reports from close fishing friends, area 13 is still kicking them out. Fish have generally been small 5-7lbs, but some larger fish are starting to be caught. Hope to get back out by february but we will see.

Sounds like I am missing some good Fishing action. I am about to start my journey home from Afghan. Bought a new boat while over here and excited to get it on the water. I seen area 13 has some Blackmouth. Not asking for your fav spot but I usually launch outta Solo Point. Anyone have any info on some places I can target Blackmouth this Winter. Also does anyone troll for them or mainly mooching?

I grew up in Steilacoom. Area 13 has been very good to me over the years. The Nisqually was once the premier Steelhead river in the state. The south sound still holds some of the best blackmouth fishing around. Just gotta know where to go. The secrets have been the same for 30 years.

MA11 we run owens beach or the clay banks, we stick around 150' water, troll low n slow, run them balls on the bottom, and we use either coyote spoons or a aceflyhi with a haerring shoved up its butt

Exactly, not alot has changed other than the amount of fish. They still hold in the same places.

for Bm just about anything will work, biggest obstacle we found is running low, beat them downrigger balls on the bottom best you can and you will do ok usually
