I have been getting some very nice pictures and videos of some larger blacktail bucks on my cameras. They have come out of hiding to chase the does around. I have not gotten any bears for quite a while now and was pleasantly surprised to get a few pics of this guy. He seems to be climbing this tree, all pics are low level and then he comes over and checks my camera out. I always find it amazing how these animals can see in the very dark woods at night.
There has been some logging nearby and I wonder if that disrupted it's hibernation or maybe it is just hibernating lightly. Any other ideas why it is out and about?

Looks like those ears are pretty far apart. That might be a nice bear, there.

Not sure were you are located but they are not all hibernating on the Westside yet.

This is the westside, but what the heck can they be eating now. Seem like just about all of the vegetation is about dead.

There are still mushrooms, Evergreen huck, fish, and orchards. etc near me with fresh sign.
-
grass, too.

I haven't got any bears since mid- October.

and carcasses.....

The pickings look extremely slim where this is. No orchards or fish. I did see some mushrooms, scarce but there. I would say these guys are very resourceful. I am always fascinated with them since they have captured my interest a few years ago.

Still get a few. not all western WA bears go into full hibernation, many if not most will sleep for two weeks or so then get up and munch on stuff for a day or two then back to sleep for two weeks and so on so on. I've gotten bears in a foot of snow in January a few times.

Saw a good sized bear 2 weeks ago just mozying along. I had a 2nd tag but really didn't want a another bear taxi bill this year. We were hunting elk anyway so there's always priorities and he wasn't it.
