That's great news! Maybe you killed most of them last year!

Same here--last year I was at least getting answers to my howls.  This year, not evan a reply.  One qualifier: I did get a reply on one night hunt I did, but the pack sounded WAY off in the distance, and they never came in.  :dunno:

What a great disappointment it will be if we find that the coyote population has crashed.    :IBCOOL:

I haven't seen any evidence that there are less coyotes--still see lots of tracks and scat.  For some reason they just aren't talking back!  :dunno:

Seems to be spotty this year, Could just be the nice weather and the coyotes are fat and happy still.

I'm running into the same thing. Have been to all my hot spots, and haven't seen any... Best night I had was this past weekend when they would howl back, but never came into view. Been slow going this year for sure... Normally I have 6-10 on the ground by now... Going to be a long winter of fruitless hunts it feels like.

Probably sent while sitting on the ferry... While using Tapatalk 2

Did a stand on the in laws property the other day and all we had come to our calls were deer.  Seriously...we had 3 does and 2 bucks come to a rabbit in distress call??? :dunno:

Some days they will respond to the howls, and some days I won't here a peep.  (same area)  Part of it I think is the barometric pressure changes that we've had.   :dunno:

Rabbit distress sounds a lot like fawn bleats.  I gave up on rabbit distress for that reason, mainly.  I even had a bunch of deer come running to coyote howls.  They looked like they were ready to kick some coyote butt!  :chuckle:

yep, I'm traveling about 100 miles one way or more to find them.Once the snow and 20 deg weather hits it should be good. Just hope it happens before they breed. Now here's a hint, try using something besides rabbit or bird. I have been calling in more doubles and triples right now than singles.

Falfire and I have notice around our area that they will respond within minutes.  4 days later nothing responds.  I'm still convinced it's the weather and barometric pressure.  And there are more pairs than singles for sure already.

I would agree with it being more weather related than anything.  When it's cold, or even better, really cold, the body burns a lot more calories.  Add to it that just finding food is more difficult and you naturally have more movement.

If we got a foot of snow and it didn't break the 20degree mark for 2 months I would be a lot more happy than I am with 40+ and rain.  And since I'm wishing, I wish for NO wind too.  Think I'm asking for to much???  lol

I believe it is weather related also, so try something other than a food call.

You can thank me for that Demontang.  Other than thinning them a bunch, I started wolf howling (practicing) behind my house.  I haven't had a coyote around my place since. :chuckle:     I have seen it work in nature and got tired of them coming in everynight, so I tried it.   WORKED AWESOME

I've wondered if the reason they have stopped howling is increased pressure from Wolves lurking around, but I haven't seen any wolf tracks where I hunt.  :dunno:

heredoggy please don't get discouraged.  none of us seem to be putting a dent in the coyote population.  i woke after my sons this morning and my older son asked for some broadheads for his bow.  why?  The coyote is eating the bird seed in the back yard.  Seen 4 so far just driving around near home.  I am hoping the drier cold spell will be good for me in western washinton.

Me? discouraged?  Hahahahhahahahh!   I just wish it would turn cold and snow, and the damned FOG would leave.
I've found that when there is fog, you might as well stay home.  Deer and coyotes seem to hate fog, and just bed down and wait it out!
