Whaddayall use to clean a MAF? Brake cleaner? Or do I need to buy a bottle of "Specialized Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner with MPG Boost" for $34.95? :chuckle:

Any sort of electrical contact cleaner like CRC. Brake cleaner is too harsh and isn't designed for electronics if I remember correctly.
Spray and let dry. DO NOT touch the maf elements with ANYTHING.

Delicate parts don't like contact or residue.

I've cleaned a lot of them by hosing with carb cleaner. Never had one come back that failed after a cleaning. Don't scrub it though.

Brake cleaner is just fine to use. Some low pressure air to blow it off and you are good to go. No electronics are exposed to ruin.

NAPA and CRC brake cleaner leave residue, in my experience.

Brake cleaner leaves a residue that will slightly skew the sensor. Use electrical contact cleaner and low pressure air and you will be fine.

The only brake cleaner that is worth spending money on for any work is the 3M stuff. Doesn't leave a residue, and it actually cleans parts, an added bonus is that its flammable so you can run a rig in the shop on it when you are moving one around with a bad fuel pump.

I worked on these sort of problems everyday for years, at both dealers and smaller repair shops. The manufacturers will tell you dont clean them at all. I have personally cleaned hundreds with many brands of brake clean and they all seem to work great. The great part about brake clean is that it leaves no residue
