Title: Raccoons in Spokane
Post by: Ridgeratt on December 30, 2012, 06:11:56 PM
Got up this morning and I have fresh tracks in my yard and in the neighbors driveway. Perhaps a pair.
My golden was going nuts this morning wanting out over and over.
It's in the city limits so my first idea is out of the question. Anyone need a new pet?  :chuckle:

Pellet gun.  The other morning I was up early and right outside the front window behind me it sound like a damn mountain lion snarling at me.  Grabbed spot light and .45 and went out the front door.  Damn raccoon walking away...that damn thing sounded mean.

We get them every now and then! So if you contact the WDFW they will inform you it is against the law to relocate them and they need to be dispatched humanely, But then it is also against the law to discharge a firearm inside the city limit's.  :dunno:
I called Petco, where the ads says it's were the pet's go!! If you call them that's how they answer the phone as well. They didn't want the last one either.

We had them really bad last year where we live.  It ended up being a mature lady who's husband passed away and she purchased huge sacks of dog food to feed them.  The animal control folks that someone in the development talked with said the the Fish and Game came in and estimated 1,700 raccoons were in the area.  YIKES!!!

I put a predator call by the garbage can and cranked it up on high.  When they would start rattling around I hit the remote and they jumped out of the can and beat feet out of there.  they came back twice after that and I hit the call both times eventually they decided it wasn't worth looking for food in our garbage cans any more.

no no no, no flat rate boxes, that would never work.  just lick a stamp, put it on his forehead, and send em over.  oh youll need to shave a patch of the fur off to put my name and address on him with a sharpie.  hope you have some nice thick leather gloves, and good luck

One of the first that got relocated had a buddy help me! He was going to distract it while I opened the trap. he picked up a stick about the size of my little finger and started to distract the suspect. it promptly snapped off the stick. he asked what I thought. Told him he needed a Bigger stick!!

We have tons of them here.  TONS.  We had to have a trapper (requirement by the folks that own our house) come out and trap a couple of them.  There are easily another dozen living in the trees outside of my window.  I asked him how to kill these things since shooting is Verboten.  I have 3 optios which are acceptable as humane... Gas em, drown em, or behead em.  I could not believe it.  Figuring out how to force an angry racoon into a burlap sack with a cinderblock in it to throw into the sound  at let it drown is more humane than a 9mm to the head?  GO figure.

I now chase them with an axe or a hatchet.  When my neighbors ask what I am doing I tell them that I am attempting to HUMANELY behead a racoon!!

Hey ridgeratt, i have a box trap for coon, used to be a control trapper on the wet side.  I live between Deer park and Chattaroy.  Your welcome to borrow it.  I will show you the best set up for coon in it without getting every feral cat in the neighborhood.  As far as releasing them, listen to the game dept.  Take them for a swim in the trap.

Thank you for your offer Da Stump
So far I have caught the neighbors cat but it seems like one trip in the trap has been a learning experience.
I had a cat that it was a given if I set it she was captured in less than 20 minutes everytime.  I was going to use the hole in the board with a 1/2 inch nut on a string. But I'm not sure if my target wasn't just a transient. But trap is still resting in the back yard.
