Title: Open Letter to Diane Feinstein
Post by: pianoman9701 on January 03, 2013, 07:57:48 AM
Dear Senator Feinstein,

I am an American citizen, an honorably discharged veteran with commendations, and a gun owner. I served my country because I believe in freedom and I believe in our form of government enough to protect it. I believe the Second Amendment to the Constitution protects my right to own guns without interference from the government. Bad people who use guns to hurt others without cause are the ones who should be punished for their crimes, not the entire citizenry of the US; not me. You've forgotten my rights.

You've forgotten that the rights given us by the Bill of Rights are individual rights guaranteed to every citizen. You have forgotten that you are my servant. I am not yours. You have forgotten that taking away the rights of the people to satisfy the rulers is the way of fascism and communism, not democracy. You seek to constrain the entire citizenry for the actions of a few. You are no friend of democracy.

Politicians like you are using recent tragic events to sway the opinions of the followers and the ignorant. You've used misinformation and fear to grab our liberty. According to our Department of Justice, the one run by Eric Holder, a openly anti-gun fanatic, "firearm-related crime has plummeted since 1993" (http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/guns.cfm (http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/guns.cfm)). How can this be? Your speeches tell of the horrors that are caused by guns and the people who own them, yet gun violence is down. You indicate that if we don't do something right now, our country will fall into chaos. But the truth is different from the swill that you spew.

Everyday, people are killed by drunk drivers yet cars are not restricted. Children are injured and killed in high school sports at a rate far greater than from guns, yet we don't restrict high school sports. Why? Because reasonable people know that you don't take away the rights and privileges of all to try and protect a few.

You've been in Congress far too long to remember that you are elected to serve the people, not the people to serve you. You carry your own firearm yet you seek to take mine. You and your kind who feel you know better and should take away my rights are the epitome of a privileged class, a class which is not supposed to exist in America. You need to retire to private life. We don't need lifetime politicians who've forgotten what it is to be a citizen of this country.

There is no factual reason to push for gun control in our democracy, unless it is to disarm the citizenry. Stop what you are doing and leave my liberty alone. Don't persist on playing the emotions of our country to attain your personal goals. Leave us with the rights we're guaranteed by our forefathers and go. You don't deserve to represent us.

I wrote Senator Feinstein, my state representatives, our US representatives, and the President.  I would encourage all who read this post to do so as well.  Encourage your family and friends to write.  Let your voices be heard.  The tragedy in Newtown will lay heavy in all of our hearts, but that tragedy does not justify emotionally driven, knee-jerk reactions to impose extreme gun control legislation.  The anti-gun fanatics will ride the wave of a horrific tragedy as far as they can while emotions are running high.

Ok I understand Obama is likely going to try and push some sort of gun ban legislation. Which I think will be catastrophic for Obama at this point. I know of a person who had said it was easier for him and his clients to obtain federal firearm license while Clinton was in office than with bush. This allowed him to own a Uzi and other fully automatic weapons. I do not agree with Obama. But, he knows that another election for senators will likely pop up in 2014 and he may not do anything. We will have to see his proposed agenda later this month.
