Title: lifted truck needs step
Post by: deadwoodbuck on January 03, 2013, 11:31:28 AM
I have a 2001 2500 dodge with a 6" lift & 37" tires...a real beauty of a diesel that i recently purchased, his wife was to pregnant to get in.  it has the full running boards and granpa step off the bed.  so my problem is that my better half loves the truck but she is to short in the poop to easily climb aboard.  she says I have to get some additional step to make it easier to get in.  i have heard that there are slide out steps, when the door opens, but that is all.  any ideas how i can permenantly attach a "second" step to the truck so that she can easily enter the truck.  short of divorcing, selling the truck or dropping it down to factory level, which can be spendy...help what can i do.  i have thought about a step stool but that is to much trouble.  whats a high rider to do?

The slide out steps your thinking of are by Amp Research.
I do believe they make a bracket that drops the step off of the standard height frame mount.

Amp's are spendy!!!

not a lifted rig driver but the other day i saw something that  may be of interest

while getting fuel i saw a really high lifted rig with no nerf bars or steps and thought "man that must be a PITA to jump into" well the guy had a step that swang down when he opened his door. it wasnt a slide out it was on a fulcrum arm that dropped down when he opened the door and when closed it swang back up and was pretty well hidden.  it looked like a guy could cut a piece of angle iron or strap iron to customize the level of the step

take at look at any of the 4 wheel drive shops they have several different styles of steps. Depending on how your running bards are attached and how strong they are you could potentially mount another step off of one with the correct configuration.

or you could try something like this

kinda screwy but if it works why not. I have a bronco on 38.5's and a jeep on 36.5 - jeep I climb the tire and bronco I have just learned how to get in it with out falling on my rear

thanks 6x6in6 good info just wondering how far down they drop...will talk to DK to see what they know.  but i do like klyne3's idea...it has real country appeal but not sure the other half would buy it.  but thanks for the ideas.
