Here's a photo and caption from an old fish and game news magazine from, I'm guessing, the 50's.  Notice that this buck only received "honorable mention" in a photo contest.

Awesome photo and awesome buck. I love old hunting photos.

-
Very nice buck right up there with the one I shot

-
I thought that was your grandpa Todd?   and that was the small one.   :chuckle:

Not sure where that article came from, but that is the Omohundro buck, taken by Jack Omahundro in 1970 outside of Salmon, Idaho. 5x5, 49 1/2". He actually gave the head away to a friend as he was partial to non-typical bucks. Many of those are still displayed ans Rainbows End B&B in Challis, Idaho! :)

Geez, that deer would be easy to mistake for an elk!

-
Awesome. Here is another gem: a 1969 article indicating that 900 mountain goat permits would be issued in Washington.

My dad and uncle hiked or down about 5 miles out of Riggins in the 80s and pulled a couple of B&C deer and a slew of monsters.  They changed the hunt outside of the rut and alas they came back to Washington.  I am trying to find the negatives to the pictures so I can post.  Great country great deer.

I don't know about that.  I've seen a lot of old black and whites of guys posing behind those toads.  Not a lot of fat guys.... :dunno:

Wow, what a great buck! I love those old hunting pictures

I recently had some old 8mm tape put onto DVD from my Dad taken about 1969. The last scene is my Dad (skinny guy) looking up at his B&C blacktail.
The camping equipment has changed, but the traditions stay the same.

Well most of those ol boys weren't fat because they WORKED for a living and didn't eat McDonald's on their lunch breaks.

It was amazing the places that they could get a "car" though.  They didn't think hiking was "fun" like we do. :chuckle:
