Title: Elk & 1 Buck with a Tasco
Post by: bobcat on January 06, 2013, 09:55:50 PM
This is from an all new trail cam spot for me. I found an area while hunting the late muzzleloader elk season that was just full of rubs, both elk and deer. Many of the rubs didn't appear to be very old at all, so I'm thinking buck rubs, made in November, and from the looks of it probably a pretty decent blacktail. So the same day I found all these rubs, I went home and grabbed a trail camera and some apples, mainly with the hope of getting pictures of a big blacktail buck. Of course I was also curious if there might be any good bull elk in the area as well.

It was December 2nd when I put up the camera. Finally got a chance to check it today, 5 weeks later. The camera was off when I got there today. It did turn on when I pressed the power button, and it took a picture of me. Checked the batteries with a tester later, and they were at 40%. The camera had taken just over 300 pictures. I was a little disappointed, I did not get pictures of any big bucks. Most of the pictures were cow elk. A buck did walk by once, with a doe following him one minute later (or a buck that already shed his antlers?) Neither one stopped to eat any apples.

Here are some of the pictures....

The picture quality itself looks good. Bummer about it turning off.

Well, I fully expected for the batteries to be dead, and all the apples to be gone. I only missed, at the most, the last 4 days, as I got a picture of an elk on January 2nd. There wasn't much action anyway, once the apples were gone. Heck they ate almost all the apples on the 10th, eight days after I put them out. I put fresh batteries in it today, and another pile of apples. Will be interesting to see if any deer come around this time.

Here are a few more:

Nice, seems like you've got a good lead on where to shoot a cow next year.  :chuckle:
