Im not sure what to buy to call in coyotes for the northwest??? Any help would be great. Also is a 30/06 to big of a round to shoot them? I know its not to bug but i cant afford a 223 or a 22-250 at the moment. thanks ddjj199e

nothing is too big for a coyote. if all you have is a 50bmg or a rocket launcher, go for it.
-
okay and a call that works well in the northwest
-
I've been searching for that answer myself. I bought a rabbit in distress, bobcat call and a mac daddy howler. I'm also from aberdeen. I'll let you know if I have any success. I imagine since they will work fine since they don't really know what's making that noise and want to find out. Either way it sounds like an easy meal.
-
oh cool what part do you live in? i have chased coyotes on the southside bridge before. they are all over south Aberdeen. I have called them in on the outskirts with a catnip call but when i use it in the woods i get nothing.
-
you could also look into a home made e-caller. I literally put one together tonight for less than 50 bucks. if you got an MP3 player or an iPod iPhone anything that plays mp3s will work. Download the calls online put them on the player. Get an audio amp from radio shack for $15 and a pa horn which I got mine at Electronic Resourcing Inc in Tumwater (360-943-1071) they will ship it too you. you can get the cable with 3.5mm ends to go into your mp3 player to the audio amp from there as well. I got a 100' cable so i can change the sounds and volume but still have the caller 100' away.
Also if you search e-caller on here you will come up with some good stuff as well.

I also live in Aberdeen as well and I have a FoxPro skyote that will get them to howl and run almost any distressed call will work eventually precistance will pay off the are temperamental
-
:dunno:

I think you can actually get varmit rounds for your 06 if you are worried about that.
-
I have more luck using a diaphram call ..I have tried many electro calls but never had the success as I do with a diaphram ...takes practice but very affective ..I have not broke down and bought a foxpro yet but I may just do that this year ...mainly to see how it works on Bobcats !
-
okay cool thanks guys. now were can i get this foxpro skyote at?
-
Wholesale sports cabelas midway USA

Nice! I live in central park. I heard them almost every night by my house in the summer time. Obviously can't shoot where I live or I would.
I like the mp3 idea. I might have to do that.
-
alrighty cool. yeah were i live i cant shoot them either. you ever stergeon fish up at friends landing?
-
Tell ya what.
Some folks think I am a purty fair caller and give me stuff to hand out to get folks going. I happen to have a couple of Ricks ( Bearmanric) calls. He is, by the way, a damn good caller and a great guy.
I have a Yellerdog call #YDD3, one that Rick sells, I will give you. It is capable of making any sound you'll ever need.
I am in Yelm but travel far and wide in pursuit, How can we hook up?
This is a standard call, NOT one of Ricks customs.

30/06 is fine for coyotes.
If you are worried about OVER penetration, or huge exit holes, if you wanted to save pelts...
you can look into a round like the old acceleraters from remington.

would you have to worry about throat erosion with them since they are pushing 4000 fpt like the 22_250?
-
nah... I used to use the hell out of them before I got my .223.
I reloaded my own with varmint grenade .223 bullets.
Just remember that they are a little less accurate because they are a .22 coming out of a .30.
but at 200 yards I could still get 3 or 4 inch groups.
They are cool because they explode in side the coyote. often times not even penetrating far enough to exit only leaving a tiny entrance hole. But when you hit em in the head... well, thats a different story. lol.... BAM!
