To soak or not to soak chips...that is the question. What do most of you Smokeaholic's do and why?
-
Nope no soaking going on here.

I soak and put them directly on coals, but I am also using a weber instead of a smoker. One time that I used chunks, I didn't soak those.
-
nope i dont want water dripping from the ceiling of my smoker, too much moisture :puke:
-
I soak when adding chips to coals...don't soak when strictly smoking.

Somewhat the same, I soak when using indirect heat over coals (Not an offset). I do not soak when using the offset smoker.

No soaking here as I use a chip pan. Like KC said, I don't care for the steam that it creates.

I can get behind that Kc...especially this time of the year.
Thanks

once you pull your meat out and see that its covered in nasty wet stuff (someones gonna have fun with that sentence) and watery goo from the smoker is dripping on it too, you wont care for it. like they said on charcoal sure the heat kills the moisture, in a smoker i wouldnt ever, im trying to DEHYDRATE and cure the meat not moisten it
-
No soak.

And you posted it anyway. :chuckle: I tried to let it go but I couldn't. Figured if I didn't do it somebody was gonna.

I soak, Big Chief smoker with a pan, but I do it because it says to... never really considered not soaking. Now I gotta try that. Oh wait, that means I need something to smoke. S'cuse me, I gotta go check the fridge/freezer/backyard.
