Title: primos alpha dog caller
Post by: 70sdiver on January 13, 2013, 07:41:50 AM: I have a gift card from cabela's lol.I'm thinking of getting the alpha dog caller.I was wondering what you guys think of this caller ?

The AD is probably alot better than the PD negatives on the power dogg was poor remote - the range SUCKED - and not very loud. I like my foxpro firestorm much better, alot louder and alot more calls and the remoate range is awesome - but a bit more money too. Again, I dont know much about the AD but I'd you are going to spend $300 on an e-caller, I'd just go with a FoxPro. :twocents:

Or PM me with your addy and I can mail mine to you, I went up there last weekend and spent a few hundred on new primer feed, new boots and a lunch pail and forgot the darn thing. Not worth the $20 to go back and return & rebuy....

He thought it had blown the speaker, so he took it back and got another. We took it out last Saturday and on the second stand it did the same thing. Coyote howls were distorted and it sounded terrible! He returned it and is now saving up for a foxpro. I've got a $130 spitfire that sounded MUCH better than his. His sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom, a lot of echo. He told the guy at the store never to recommend that call.

Post by: VarmintVentilator on January 15, 2013, 08:38:50 PM: That's weird about the sounds. I've had mine for a little over a year now, and have killed a number of coyotes. But, it does like to use up batteries. After about 5- 6 hours of use is when the distortion starts with mine, but the batteries are getting weak by that time.

The furthest I have been from my spitfire was about 35 yards. It worked great. I haven't tried it out further then that though.

I've had good luck with it so far. I think I've done 4-5 sets with it and called in about 8 coyotes. I've been happy with the remote range and sound for sure and the battery life seems to be great.

Buy one and kill some dogs and post up some pics!! Good Luck.

All the problems i have had with my foxpro have been due to exhausted batteries. Fresh batteries snaps it right out of it. Can't help with the range issue. About the farthest out my caller has been is 40-50 yards. i like to plant my stuff and get on stand as quickly as I can. Often times the caller is just a few feet from where I'm sitting.

Generally I set it out about 50-75 yards and have yet to have an issue. As said previously, battery life is a key factor

Heck yeah I'd say you've "had good luck" with it! 8 dogs in 4- stands is frickin awesome! :tup: Shoot, I should buy one of those. But no matter what I have I wont call much of anything when I'm laying in bed and the call is sitting in the drawer! Thats how its been lately for me! :chuckle:

I usually dont put the call very far from where I'm set up either, maybe 15-20yds or less. I like to try & get them in as close as possible and shotgun em if I can - plus then I can hear it easily too. But I was having problems with my Power Dogg even at that range and with new batteries. I dont think I've ever setup my FP more than 50yds away, but I've never had an issue with the remote range. I also use my quiver critter rabbit decoy almost every time too, so I put it and the call about 5ft from each other with the decoy in a little clear spot and then the caller hidden in a bush, tuft, stump, etc. I love that decoy and swear by that little bunny, it has drawn more than a few kyoats into their demise.
