Title: 2007 eastside rifle antlerless elk tag hunters....
Post by: cabin308 on September 18, 2008, 10:31:49 AM
I was wondering if anybody here drew an antlerless elk permit for 2007 in any of GMU 346, 352, 356, 360, 364 and was also successful in tagging an antlerless elk there?  Because according to the WDFW website for the last four years there has not been an antlerless elk taken with a modern firearm in any of these GMU's?  I find that hard to believe.   :dunno:

There's just no way this can be true. Has anyone seen a cow swinging in these gmu's in the last 8 years? I haven't hunted in any of these areas but I'm sure they have filled cow tags, they give out ton of cow tags in these areas. I'm sure this will be proof that they lie about bag limits.

Little Naches, Nile, Bumping, Rimrock, and Bethel all show no antlerless elk taken with modern firearm?  That is hard to believe.

Either WDFW screwed up with the stats (very likely) or everybody has lied on there harvest report cards that hunted those units (not likely).

If you look under the Harvest Report for special permits you'll see where they show cows being killed in those units.

Found it, thanks Curly.  Still wonder why in these GMU's the DFW wouldn't automatically include the modern special permit results with their statewide totals?  Looks almost like they included part of the stats for some areas but not others.  :dunno:   Confusing....but what else is new with the WDFW.   :chuckle:    :beatdeadhorse:

The General hunts and special permit hunts are reported separately, and that's as it should be. What is confusing about it? I'm confused as to why you are confused.   :chuckle:

You know, I think the confusing part is that when you look at the general season harvest reports, for units such as Teanaway, it shows a large number of cows being killed during modern firearm season, when we know that all that is legal is a spike bull. Well, if you look under the general elk seasons you'll see there is an antlerless elk season from August 1 to January 20, for Master Hunters only, in Elk Area 3911, which I happen to know takes in part of the Teanaway unit and I believe also Naneum, and possibly Quilomene. So that is the cow harvest that you are seeing, it is not from special permits. It sure does skew the success rates. It makes the data pretty much useless to look at when you're wanting to see a success rate for the general spike season.
