Title: check your hook
Post by: Fishaholic on January 20, 2013, 05:43:38 PM
so i went trout fishing  today and was getting nice bites i was using a pink #2 bluefox and i didnt know why i couldnt get one on and then i was reeling in and seen a trout hit my lure say on for 2 seconds and the fish swam away. i checked my spinner and i had one hook left of of 3. ( i have had this lure for like 2 years) rust finaly got it. so next time you go out fishing check your hooks before you go. haha                                                                                                           it was a nice day at the lake though.

Haha. I was trolling a dick nite once and I had like 5 fish hit. I would just leave it out there for the next fish. After the fifth fish hit, I reeled it up to figure something out, and I found out that the hook was gone  :dunno: :chuckle:

I trolled an empty dodger for 1 1/2 hours after landing a 28 pound king and losing a 20 pounder at the boat in the first hour and a half of fishing.   :bash:

That looks like some fun.  I need to find an open lake and do that myself.

it happens.    i never check my hooks because i spend most of my time fishing in westport  bottom fishing and rock fishing so a hook only lasted 4 or 5 baiting before it gets hooked up on a rock or my weight gets stuck in the rocks. last year was the first year i have trout fished. im new at trout fishing haha

I think the first thing I do is check my hooks.  I sharpen them if need be or replace them with new.  If I catch a few fish, I check it and leader and will replace leader and sharpen hook again.  I think I have Owners on just about everything.

He will probably not tell you if it is really good.  a person should never give up there secret spots or there wouldn't be any fish left in there over time due to that location getting popular.

wasn't expecting an answer but it never hurts to try! :chuckle:

its in wa and has a creek that feeds into it and has a creek that goes out of it and its in the woods. thats all i will tell you. oh worms injected with air and shrimp oil work great there with a 5 feet leader and a bit of split shot  gets them every time.

Not bad, but nothing like kinking your buddy's line with the nail clippers 3 or 4 feet up for a really good time

err, your hook is fishing 101  :o i dont even sling a hook w/o running it across the sharpener. if your hook tip doesnt dig into your fingernail just gently sliding it across, then its too dull

Clean your hooks/lures at the end of the day with a bit of WD40 and they won't rust on you.

will the wd40 affect the lure because there is a sent on it? i some times use shrimp oil and put in  in the body of the lure.

Not at all....I've used wd40 on my fishing gear for years. Acutally...it helps take scent OFF. You handle your gear getting it ready....maybe a flasher and hoochie.....spray it down then when it hits the water that litttle oil slick included the oils from your hands. Virtually scent free gear!
