SO I WENT OUT TO CHASE SOME HUNS/CHUKAR IN AN UNDESCLOSED LOACTION CLOSE TO TRI CITIES. ABOUT HALF HOUR INTO MY HUNT I NOTICE A COYOTE WATCHING ME FROM ABOUT 100 YARDS. THE COYOTE WAS HUGE!! :yike: :yike: IT WAS TALLER THAN MY WEIMARANER AND WAY BULKIER. IT WASNT A WOLF THOUGH. EARS WERE WAY TOO BIG FOR A WOLF AND TAIL WAS TOO BUSHY. MY WEIM WEIGHS ABOUT 65-70 LBS. ANYWAYS I YELLED AT IT TO SEE HOW IT WOULD RESPOND. IT DIDN'T RUN AWAY. SO I SATRTED WALKING TOWARDS IT. IT STARTED WALKING TOWARDS ME. :yike: SO I RAN AT IT. AND IT RAN AT ME! :yike: :yike: WHEN WE WERE ABOUT 60 YARDS APART I SHOT INTO THE AIR WITH MY SHOTGUN AND IT TURNED AROUND RAN OFF ABOUT 10 YARDS THEN CAME RUNNING BACK. I SHOT AGAIN, IT RAN OFF ABOUT 10 YARDS AGAIN, BUT THEN CAME RUNNING RIGHT BACK. AT THIS POINT I GOT TIRED OF MESSING WITH IT AND CONTINUED HUNTING. WE WALKED ABOUT 2 MILES ON THE BOLLOM OF A HILL AND THE COYOTE FOLLOWED ABOVE US ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY SLIGHTLY IN THE FOG. THEN IF FOLLOWED US ALL THE WAY TO THE CAR, KEEPING ABOUT 100 YARDS BETWEEN US THE WHOLE TIME. I THINK I WILL GO BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WITH MY RIFLE. :chuckle:
THE COYOTE WAS HUGE AND IT WAS VERY DARK. NOT BLACK, BUT DARK DARK GREY. PRETTY COOL.

Shoulda kept walking to within scatter gun range ;)
-
I started carrying my glock 10mm when bird hunting cause I have been seeing coyotes every time I go.
I'm just worried about my dog getting attacked

I TRIED. ONCE I WAS ABOUT 45-50 YARDS AWAY IT WOULD RUN OFF A BIT THEN COME BACK, AS IF IT WAS PLAYING WITH ME. NEVER GOT WITHIN CLOSE ENOUGH RANGE TO DO ANY DAMAGE.

You're sure it wasn't a lost dog?

IT WAS A COYOTE 100% BUT IT WAS SURPRIZINGLY HUGE. PLUS THE CLOSEST HOUSE IS ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY. AND THEY ONLY HAVE A BLUE HEELER. AND OTHER THAN THAT HOUSE THE CLOSEST HOUSE IS PROBABLY 7-8 MILES AWAY.

I was looking for birds in the mountains on the Westside a couple of years ago and saw a similar animal. Just a few seconds, but I had never seen any wild animal that looked like it. Wild dog? I don't know , but I was freaked for awhile. It was huge.

i was walkiNg down a road with my dogs and a coyote started following me. It seemed intersted in my dogs. it always stayed 60yrds away or more. whem i walked faster it stared to trott. i'd turn and run at it it would run into the bushes, then when i got 60 or more yards it would come backout. so i walked around a corner and hide in the bushes. when it got a bout 15 yards away i jumped out and scare the crap out of it.

Its breeding season so they are interested in your dogs! They are very aggressive this time of year with other canines.
-
Maybe that yote learned to follow bird hunters to pick up lost birds etc...? Think seagul at McDonalds....

:yeah:
When bird hunting, a couple 'BB' or Buckshot shells in the pocket can turn a bird hunt into a successful Yote hunt. :chuckle:

:yeah: #2s are good, too!

Rifled slugs have better range than buckshot. Buy a 5 pack, take two practice shots at 50 and 70 yards, good to go. More practice is better of course and rifles slugs are a lot cheaper than the sabot rounds for a rifled barrel.

Doubt it. I've never seen hunters in this spot. Private land

could be. I've seen several abnormally huge coyotes in that area. this was a bit different because of it's color
