What is your opinion, given the current state of affairs in this country, of showing off your firearm collections on sites like this (or facebook, etc) so "everyone" looking or maybe searching, knows what you have for an arsenal?? Me, I'm just an archer (wink wink)..nothing but "bows" (wink wink) at my homestead! State your view...

I certainly get tired of it. I could show off plenty of new toys, whether its guns, fishing equipment, optics, trucks, etc., but I choose not to. Both here and on Facebook. Just don't see the point of it, and when it comes to guns and other expensive toys, I don't really want everyone knowing I have them, whether they know me or not. And I don't mean I get tired of everyone, just the ones who feel the need to show off everything, every time they get something new which often times is several times a week. Just gets a little old.

I own guns and I don’t care who knows.  It’s my right, and I’m proud to exercise it.

I don't have alot of guns anyhow, certainly nothing worth showing off. I have enough to get done what ever I need to get done no real special neesds guns. What I do need more of is arrows though, need to work more on my archery arsenal. Maybe turn out a pile of hazlenut shafts for the stickbow. Is there a limit to how many arrows a person can have? or quiver capacity?

Never thought of that...good point.  I am the same way that I own guns and don't care who knows but knowing exactly what I have might be an issue.  I changed my profile.

I am not caring who knows, of my "honest" neighbors, but I do not leave my wallet on the seat of my car  in open view either. I am not sure what you mean?

I've shown a gun or two over time... I like the 'gun' threads. But I don't show my whole miniscule collection of purpose and heirloom firearms. It doesn't take a rocket scientist thief to watch this type of site to figure out who has guns, and it wouldn't take rocket science to figure out where many of us live. Be forewarned though... My family all shoot, have ready access, and none us have a set schedule. Casing our place would be a challenge for a pro! I really do hope that anyone showing photos of their guns has a good safe to lock them up in.

It seems like the "guns and ammo" section of an outdoor enthusiast forum would be pretty boring without pictures of guns. :dunno:

Would a car guy go on to a car related forum and not post pictures of his car, or some upgrade that was just put on there? They put a lot of time and money into their cars and they want to share the results with other like minded individuals. It's a shared interest and a shared appreciation.

Looking at other people's pictures gives me a lot of ideas of what I do or don't like or ideas for future projects. I don't feel the need to throw a picture up of every run of the mill gun I pick up (do you really need to see a picture of a Rem model 550 22lr). There's nothing wrong with showing something that's a little different or that others may not see every day. :twocents:

I'll never understand the paranoia about random internet terrorists kicking down your door because of a picture or a post that they read online.

I see in my store daily the, you know the type, that talk, usually loudly, about how many and which kind of every firearm they own. Usually with a tone of arrogance thrown in. Me, I would rather be a little lower key about it, especially now, about what I do own. Have had attempted breakins twice while I was out of town (African safari and a several week backcountry trip for elk. Both times my wife was home, and thwarted both with her appearance with a handgun. With the state of the country now, I will be showing fewer here on the internet, of what I own. Bad guys, you will have to guess and take your chances.

I used to keep my collection in a locked display case to show it off.
Now I built a room where they are hidden away, out of sight and behind locked doors.
I only display my C+R guns.

The outright hilarious part about the gun  a week guy is when the truth really comes out, the firearms/ land they profess to own isn't even theirs!

Not sure I have ever seen a persons arsenal posted on this website....Maybe a few singles here and there.  I am kinda on the fence here guys??

I don't see any real reason not to share a picture or two of a few guns you are proud of.  Kinda like sharing a picture of your children.  Are you afraid the child molesters and kidnappers are coming to beat down your door to take them?  There is a lot a guy can fear now days, reality is I don't like to live in fear.  I do what is legal, morally and ethically right and otherwise what makes me feel good.  If sharing a pic here and there is that so be it.  If you want what I have....well come and get it....I will give you the ammo first!!

With that being said...I do agree that sharing your arsenal would in general be a poor decision.

Stew away! Seeing a trust isn't public record and your not possibly being able to be further out of the loop. You are clueless. That only leaves gossip and rumor, shame, shame.

landon, is your response to me?
I'm not seeing where my post implies I am referring to you, or anybody in particular for that matter.

Agree that a pic here or there. I direct this more to the boastfull type that profess close to mini arsenals. I would rather those around not know exactly what I own. Guns have become harder to finder, pricier to buy, some may soon be banned, thus raising demand and price, and there is no 100% background check on a stolen gun. Just saying the temptation is getting greater for the badguys.
Also, some of us have had things stolen out of our vehicles. A smash and grab might be more likely if bad guy knows you have a Kimber or two?? Just food for thought. Each of us have to decide for ourselves how we react to this strange new world. Wish everyone :) luck in that!

Question on this. Suppose there are people trolling this site or others like FB for the sole purpose of stealing. (personally I think that its very low numbers doing this if at all). But for this lets assume there are lots of dirtbags doing this. How would they go about finding you? Unless you have your real name, address, phone number and other personal info out there I would think it would be difficult to do so and not worth their time to try for a gun. Easier ways to steal. You can set personal setting to hidden or just say you live somewhere else. I dont have a problem showing guns but dont do it often. I do like seeing what people have. Its like a teaser peep show  :chuckle:
On another note, why do people scratch out their license plate when showing pics of cars/trucks. You drive it on the road with thousands of other people seeing it  :dunno:

It doesnt have to be just showing off on a site, or bragging in a gun store. People have been followed after leaving gunranges and followed and relieved of their firearms at gunpoint once in thier own driveway. Goes to show, dont blow all your ammo at the range!  :)

My decision is to stay a little more discreet. Just my own thoughts.

If I had an arsenal to show off,

Not sure I would display all, but having said that, I live vicariously through what others on here do post up

Wether it is pictures of a trip to Africa, or a sweet AR build. I enjoy looking at them. If all of you stopped posting you "arsenals" this site would be pretty friggin boring.

I have used info from Holster pictures to trigger recommendations from info people have posted.

Where else can you get an honest appraisal and opinion from someone that has what you may want in the future, be it a knife, rifle, pack in or hunting trip?

Heck if I was envious of all of you for posting things I do not have, what the heck am I saying, I am totally envious of what some of you have, please do not stop posting just because I am jealous and wish I had what you have.

Just saying, I think  :dunno:
