Having recently become unable to hunt with my bow any longer, I was wondering if anybody may have a good suggestion for a crossbow? I'm trying to stay around $500-600 dollars before I have to come up with a sight, since I can't use a scope. I just sold my bow and hope to get something soon to use this fall. Before I get any posts, I've already qualified to hunt disabled in 2 states. Thanks for any good information or experience.

After a lot of research I went with an Excalibur that came with an iron sight and wouldn't go back, with a little practice the one pin sight works just fine. The excalibur is a recurve which equals durability and the ability to restring in the field if needed. As far as speed the Phoenix model I have has plenty... It's not the fastest one out there but I'm still getting 278fps and accurate as can be and with the slick trick xbow broadhead (a must) I had no problem getting a double lung pass through blacktail... It was amazing how hard it hit that deer, I'm talking crumpled in its tracks then stumbled at most 20 yards spraying blood. Hope this helps and if your ever up this way I could put you on some bt.

Thanks for the input, I have my paperwork in now and should hear back soon. I think I'm going with a Ten Point Titan Extreme. The AccuDraw was quite nice, but really like the feel and re-string idea of the Excaliber. I own some property outside of Tonasket I plan on hunting for whitetail, but have never hunted BT. PM me and we can share info and such. Glad to see it's not impossible to hunt archery with a bad shoulder in WA.

Have you tried switching to left handed (assuming you are right handed to begin with)? I know of some folks that went that route.

I did for a while, but I'm so right eye dominate it's very uncomfortable to try an get my sight picture. It's also hard to hold the bow steady with my weakened right shoulder at draw. Sucks!!

I have been researching crossbows for a few weeks now and just bought the Barnett Quad 400 for 399.00 at cabelas. I found a lot of good reviews about this crossbow. I will sight it in this week and post some reviews of it later.

Keep us posted on your crossbow. I just purchased a Ten Point Titan Extreme and it shoots great! Looking for a good pin sight now, but really want a multi-pin fiber optic sight. It's deadly at 30 yards! Utah and Idaho allow a Red Dot scope, but Washington doesn't. Can't wait to hunt with it. I see my surgeon on Thursday to have my Washington paperwork signed and get it in. Fingers are crossed to be hunting there this fall.

Bad Rivers has the only fiber optic sight that I was able to find.

I am disabled from 5 shoulder surgerys and I us a drawlock on my bow. Works great and have taken several bucks with this system. You can get one for you bow for about $170.00. www.drawlock.com (http://www.drawlock.com) Crossbows are heavy and cumbersome. :)

Smalldog, I feel your pain on the 5 surgeries. It only took two to figure out that mine wouldn't ever heal right. Bicep tendon is my problem.

Smalldog, I feel your pain on the 5 surgeries. It only took two to figure out that mine wouldn't ever heal right. Bicep tendon is my problem.
I am in week 12 after surgery for a torn bicept. You have me a little worried. Why did you have 2 operations? I'm realizing that this tear was a little more of a big deal than I thought. I'm getting a little frustrated with how long it's taking to heal.

I have tendonosis. It attacks the tendons and if they tear, it makes it so the won't heal properly. I've have it in both Achilles and my bicep/shoulder. The 2nd surgery was an attempt to have it heal the second time, but it torn again during rehab and I just can't get the strength back, so my doctor decided not to operate again. It's mostly pain free, but very little strength, so we called it best option. My Achilles are sure a slow recovery! Sucks

It only took 3 letters from my OP surgeon, but the paperwork is being returned to crossbow hunt in Washington for archery. Ordered a pin sight today. I'll be there hunting in November!

I will do that, I've been working my property and a few lots around me that the neighbors let me hunt. I have some small food plots planted last fall and I'll see how they grew in. Hope the seed blend can take the dry summer. Have about a dozen resident does and a few young bucks, but have never been there during the rut. Should be lots of fun, no whitetails here in Utah. I'll need to buy another tree stand now.....

Congrats and enjoy, it was such a rush and personal accomplishment to get back out there and tag one out last year. Good luck
