On a side note the russians are really bad up there, they have no idea and try to push u out, fish in your hole, walk around your group and talk among em. It is very sad the unsportmanship with that cutlure. We were all packing and I suggest you do the same!
They send out scouts to find fish laying on the ice and then they move in very bad!
Be there early there was rigs parked a mile up the road

It was kinda slow but the beer was cold and the sun was nice!What lake was this on?

I have never witnessed it but heard about it and after today I am now broken in on how dif cultures fish.
Litterally walking up to you not say any thing look at your fish and run off to gather the troops. We had our weapons visible and the dogs were a good deterrent. My dog kept growling because they would just walk right up like they own it.

I thought that was you yesterday but didn't want to say anything in case it wasn't.....I was the guy with the 2 boys that made the comment about wishing my boys would pull the sled like your lab was....LoL We ended up doing pretty good. Limited on perch, and fell 2 short of trout limits. Couldn't have picked a better weather day! There for a while I thought we were in for a blizzard.....to end up with coats, hats, and gloves off was pretty awesome! Gotta say again, that dog of yours is something else.....
A note about the Russians up there..... I am one of the guys that had a nasty encounter with them last year. Was sitting in my chair fishing away when I noticed a guy that was slowly walking around me staring and carrying an axe..... He finally wandered off and my attention went back to fishing.....about fifteen minutes later I heard a loud smack and feel ice hit me in the back of the neck....I jumped up and spun around to see the same Russian trying to chop an ice hole no more than 3 feet directly behind my chair! Lets just say he was made very aware that I was packing myself! It is absolutely nuts what goes on up there now! I remember as a kid only seeing 10 to 20 people out on the ice.....I couldn't count them yesterday. Most all of them speaking Russian.
Here is a short list of things I have either seen or heard of happening up there that if any of you are going to try fishing up there need to be on the look out for....
1. Like Antlerking said, they will try to crowd you out....either by drilling holes right by yours, or I have even heard of them trying to drop there rigs right in your hole after you bring a fish up. Look for their spy's....most of the time kids!
2. They leave their trash all over the ice. (I know other people do this as well, but if your up there you will see what I mean)
3. Constantly asking what you are using which then also leads to them asking if they can have what ever it is your using.
4. They like to chop party holes! Some big enough to fall through. Sometimes they will auger out connecting holes, our use and axe to make a man hole sized hole. (got to be careful when walking out looking for these!
5. Watch your fish! If your like me you like to explore other holes.....Take your fish with you! Have heard of more than one guy that went back to a hole and his fish were gone!
6. Constant drilling.....and more drilling.....and even more drilling! I think they bring someone up with them and that is all he is allowed to do all day!
7. Park your rig in the lot somewhere you cant get blocked in.
8. Over harvest. There is a limit of 25 perch and 5 trout on fish lake. Though you don't hardly ever see a Russian catching much, the gamie buddy of mine informs me that they don't know the meaning of limits. Or how many poles they can use!
9. They will ice fish even when the ice is VERY unsafe....so, just because you see people out there....it is better to check the ice for yourself!
10. Take ear plugs....the constant sound of the Russian language spilling into your ears is enough to give anyone a head ache!
I am sure there is more I could write but I will leave it there for now.....

This is their Russian or communist mentality. They hate to see some one buying, wearing, driving, catching something better than they have. Called "zavist" Or A type of envy In Russian. They are born thieves too and I say this having Russian friends. Not all are like this but a good deal of Russians fit this stereotype. and they typically view Americans as weak, naive and stupid because they don't game the system and lie and commit fraud, poach fish and game and steal.
I speak Russian and when they act this way around me I just swear in Russian and tell them to get lost and add a few choice swear words. swearing in Russian is a bit different than swearing in English. If they are drunk or belligerent I just say in Russian that I saw them poaching and am callingnthe Police. They will always back down. Don't let them bully you.

Grew up ice fishing in WI. Thinking of heading up to Fish Lake next weekend.
Anyone interested in joining me can pm me. If I see Russian acting like idiots I am going to give them a very difficult time.

We also caught 2 squaw fish that were about 2 feet long. They are going to be garden fertilizer.
Good fishing but not as good as I've seen.
